Mana defends NZWPW title tonight

It’s an historic night for Ben Mana as the champ makes his first defence of the NZWPW title at Bringing Down the House.

Mana, a two-time NZWPW Champion, was forced to vacate the belt due to injury after winning it at last year’s Power Play.

After almost one full year on the side lines, Mana returned to action with a win at Over the Top and went on to defeat Johnny Idol for the NZWPW Championship at Power Play X in September.

Tonight, Idol invokes his rematch clause and attempts to rewrite history and bring Mana’s second reign to a very short end.

“[I’ve] got a lot of respect for Ben Mana, but that doesn’t mean I’m just gonna lie down for him,” Idol said. “I want my title back!”

While Idol seems to have turned over a new leaf since his Power Play loss, it will be all business when he and Mana step in the ring this evening.

Can Idol reclaim the NZWPW title on his first attempt, like he did after losing to James Shaw earlier in the year?

Will Mana be able to get his second reign as champ off the ground and begin making a legacy for himself as NZWPW’s top dog?

Also on the card, Chad Howard defends the He Toa Cup against former friend and tag team partner Adam Avalanche.

It is mandatory for the He Toa Cup to be defended in the He Toa Gym, but Howard has been the most fighting titleholder yet, opting to put the cup on the line at other NZWPW events as well.

Can he find a way to outsmart and overcome the much-larger Avalanche, or will his days as a dual champion (Howard also holds the NZWPW tag team titles with Paul Sayers) be brought to an end?

NZWPW Bringing Down the House takes place today, October 11, at the He Toa Gym on North Street, Petone. Doors open at 6.30pm with a bell time of 7pm. Tickets are available on the door ($15 for adults, $10 for children). The card, subject to change, is listed below.
