Slater beats Jag at Wrestle Rampage debut
Damian Slater remains the Australian National Champion after defeating “Jag” Hartly Jackson at Wrestle Rampage Resurrection.
Slater and Jackson, who will be familiar to New Zealand fans from their six-man Zero1 showcase at Fallout in 2012, battled over the belt in the main event of the first show under the Wrestle Rampage banner.
“Can’t move my neck at all but happy with an incredibly successful Wrestle Rampage debut at our new venue,” Slater tweeted. “On to Shinsuke Nakamura in March.”
Nakamura, a regular with New Japan Pro-Wrestling and former IWGP Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion, will challenge Slater for the Australian National Championship at the double-header Revolution event in March.
Also at Resurrection, New Zealand’s Link Barnett defeated “Crazy Croatian” John E Radic in an international battle for the Adelaide audience.
The win is a first for Barnett (formerly Link van Haggard) in Wrestle Rampage/Zero1, who has been defeated by Bruce “Havok” Mills at the promotion’s past two events.
