ROH vs. NJPW at War of the Worlds

140518_wotw2While last week’s Global Wars event had matches featuring both NJPW and ROH talent, this morning’s War of the Worlds will feature matches pitting NJPW talent against ROH talent in an all-out battle for supremacy.

In the main event, ROH World Champion Adam Cole defends his title against Japanese legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger in what could be the hardest match of Cole’s career.

Liger began wrestling in 1984 and adopted his current persona in 1989, the same year Cole was born, meaning the experience advantage will definitively go to the challenger.

Factoring in the fatigue Cole may be feeling after a hard-fought title defence against Kevin Steen just one week prior at Global Wars, War of the Worlds could play host to an historic title change.

Kevin Steen has shifted his focus away from Adam Cole and will instead look to overcome IWGP Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura in New York City.

“I may not have won the Ring of Honor world title tonight,” Steen conceded after Global Wars, “but you know what’s not going to happen in New York City? New Japan Pro-Wrestling will not come to New York City and steal the show. Shinsuke Nakamura will not walk into the Hammerstein Ballroom and outperform Kevin Steen. Not in New York City.

“I’m looking forward to a fight and I know you will bring one but, Mr Nakamura, please know this: bring the kicks, bring the strikes, bring the knees, I will take them all and smile as I drop you on your head and show you why when Kevin Steen is in the ring in New York City we call it the ‘Hammer-Steen Ballroom.’”

ROH War of the Worlds is live on iPPV today, May 18, at 11.30am. The event costs $14.95 USD (approximately $17.36 NZD) and is available from Ustream.
