AJ Styles defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against both Michael Elgin and Kazuchika Okada in the main event of ROH War of the Worlds yesterday.

Styles had originally been scheduled to put his title on the line in a one-on-one contest with Elgin, but a confrontation at the start of the event, in addition to the three-way face off that occurred at last week’s Global Wars event in Toronto, led to Okada being added to the bout.

With Okada seeking to reclaim his title and Elgin hoping to make the most of his first IWGP Heavyweight Championship opportunity, Styles could not have been faced with two hungrier challengers.

Styles’ experience in triple threat bouts shone through in the end though as he picked his moment to strike, waiting until Okada had levelled Elgin with his signature Rainmaker before knocking the NJPW star from the ring with a flying forearm strike.

Styles then dragged Elgin back to his feet and finished him with the Styles Clash to retain the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

ROH World Champion Adam Cole, who had retained his title against Jushin “Thunder” Liger earlier in the evening, did not want to be overshadowed by the IWGP title match, and rushed to the ring to take down Elgin, Okada and Styles with belt shots to the head.

Cole was the only man left standing as the War of the Worlds broadcast came to an end.
