NZPWI Roundtable: Elimination Chamber

WWE Championship, Elimination Chamber Match:
John Cena (c) vs. AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin vs. Bray Wyatt vs. Dean Ambrose vs. The Miz

Mister J (63% accurate at Royal Rumble):
Since his arrival in WWE, Bray Wyatt has been the “on the verge” guy. The guy who the fans took to—but was then left hanging, the guy who was doing great promos—and then some of his crew got injured, the guy who everyone expected big things from, but he just kind of meandered. I’m picking Bray for the win because, if he doesn’t, what’s the point of him now? It’s his time to pull the trigger.
Winner: Bray Wyatt

Blake (38% accurate at Royal Rumble):
My hope against hope is that Styles rebounds from this past week so that he can put on an absolute barnburner with Orton at WrestleMania.
Winner: AJ Styles

Grady (38% accurate at Royal Rumble):
This is stacked! As much as I would like Baron Corbin to walk out WWE Champion, I don’t see it happening. The man I am going to pick is Bray Wyatt. I know John Cena is on a high after picking up number 16 and that AJ Styles has revenge on his mind, but I’ve got a gut feeling and I’ve gotta go with it.
Winner: Bray Wyatt

Richard:
The Chamber should never be taken lightly and, as we have seen, an injury can take place at any given time. Here’s hoping all the guys get out in one piece. That said I love the carnage that this match delivers. I think the chaotic style of this match favours either Bray Wyatt or Dean Ambrose. I’m going to go out on a limb and pick Wyatt.
Winner: Bray Wyatt

SmackDown Women’s Championship:
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Naomi

Mister J:
I think Naomi is great and she is very much deserving her time in the spotlight… but getting the win over Bliss? No, I don’t think so.
Winner: Alexa Bliss

Blake:
I have been rooting for Naomi to get a championship shot for bleeding years, and I’m not going to not back her now.
Winner: Naomi

Grady:
Naomi hasn’t proved anything to me of recent while Alexa Bliss has been on the top of the mountain on SmackDown (with some help). Barring a large upset, I see Bliss keeping her championship. Whether she does it all on her own is a different question…
Winner: Alexa Bliss

Richard:
Alexa Bliss is one of my favourite wrestlers at the moment so I can’t pick against her.
Winner: Alexa Bliss

SmackDown Tag Team Championship, Tag Team Turmoil:
America Alpha (c) vs. The Ascension vs. Breezango vs. Heath Slater & Rhyno vs The Usos vs. The Vaudevillains

Mister J:
How do half of these people even still have jobs, like seriously? I didn’t even know some of these guys were still with the company. When was the last time WWE did house cleaning?
Winners: American Alpha

Blake:
I know it didn’t work out well last time, but why isn’t this match an Elimination Chamber?! Anyway, I can’t say I’m really too bothered about who wins this match, so I’ll just gamble on momentum.
Winners: The Ascension

Grady:
Breezango. They will win. End of answer.
Winners: Breezango

Richard:
This match is so unpredictable and it’s not an exaggeration when I say any team could win this, so I’ll have to stick with my favourite team of American Alpha.
Winners: American Alpha

Luke Harper vs. Randy Orton

Mister J:
As much as I would like to see Luke Harper get the win, I really don’t see it happening. Hipster-dom is dead, dude, get a haircut and get a real job.
Winner: Randy Orton

Blake:
I mean… come on!
Winner: Randy Orton

Grady:
Randy Orton is coming off the high of winning the Royal Rumble, maybe he looks past Luke Harper and has his eyes on WrestleMania, but he is better than that. I have no doubt Randy is focussed on the task at hand and that means bad things for Harper.
Winner: Randy Orton

Richard:
The implosion of The Wyatt Family continues. Orton is on a high at the moment after winning the Rumble two weeks ago. (Small set back on SmackDown but that was against the world champ so no big deal.) Harper is in desperate need of a win here. He has lost his family because of Orton. I think Orton is in for some payback.
Winner: Luke Harper

Natalya vs. Nikki Bella

Mister J:
I’ve never liked Nikki Bella more than I like her now – and currently, I abhor her. I’m going to back Natalya based entirely on an arbitrary personal preference, about a person I’ve never met… Just like any IWC member worth his salt does. (Edit: I’ve just been reminded I did meet her, such was the impression she made.)
Winner: Natalya

Blake:
Wasn’t the stipulation of this match that the winner gets to be John Cena’s trophy? I could have sworn I saw that on SmackDown
Winner: Nikki Bella

Grady:
Never bet against the one who dates John Cena. Nikki Bella will get her revenge in a big way over Natalya for the attack ages ago that we have been teasing for so goddamn long.
Winner: Nikki Bella

Richard:
Natalya has gone off the deep end in this one. She is getting way too personal and I think that will come back to bite her.
Winner: Nikki Bella

Becky Lynch vs. Mickie James

Mister J:
Wait, another women’s match? What the hell? Mickie James used to be nuts, but seems to have mellowed. As everyone knows though, if you really want nuts, never look past a redhead.
Winner: Becky Lynch

Blake:
If both of these women are at their best, this match could steal the show. As for the winner, I cannot with a sound mind bet against one of the most mental Superstars to ever grace a WWE ring.
Winner: Mickie James

Grady:
Mickie James is such a wild-card that I have to favour her over the red-hot Lynch. I wouldn’t be surprised to pick this one wrong, but I think James has that experience edge that will help her get the W.
Winner: Mickie James

Richard:
This could well be the match of the night. Two very experienced ladies with a score to settle. Becky will be fired up and looking for revenge after Mickie cost her the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Winner: Becky Lynch

2-on-1 Handicap Match:
Apollo Crews & Kalisto vs. Dolph Ziggler

Mister J:
Three women’s matches, a two-on-one handicap match, and a multiple team tag match? What year is this? Why not add four other matches to the card, put Judy Bagwell on a forklift, and call it a WCW show? I don’t know… I guess I’m going to say Dolph for the win, because what’s the point otherwise? Two guys beat one, that’s hardly news… that’s just like one of those Team MMA shows, or “muggings” as I like to call them. Kids these days…
Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Blake:
Coin toss…
Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Grady:
When people like Ziggler are put into unfavourable situations, they come out on top.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler

Richard:
Dolph has dominated these two individually but together they will pose a much tougher challenge. With Dolph’s recent personality change I don’t think he will care too much. He’ll find a way to win.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler
