NZPWI Roundtable: WWE Fastlane

WWE Universal Championship:
Kevin Owens (c) vs. Goldberg

Mister J (60% accurate for 2017):
Goldberg has certainly been showing the monster instinct since he returned. The only person he has been unable to best thus far is Kevin Owens (mainly on Twitter though, it must be said). I think, sadly, now is his time to rectify that…
Winner: Goldberg

David (47% accurate for 2017):
2017 Goldberg is still somewhat of an unknown quantity because he’s had such little time in the ring, bell-to-bell. If Owens can last longer than 1:26, we’ll be in for a fight – but I don’t know anyone can.
Winner: Goldberg

Richard (43% accurate for 2017):
The longer this match goes, the more it favours Kevin Owens. Goldberg is on an absolute tear at the moment dominating Brock multiple times. I think the unsaid X-factor here is Chris Jericho. Will he make his presence felt and cost his former best friend his Universal Championship? I certainly would not be surprised.
Winner: Goldberg

Blake (33% accurate for 2017):
Can someone explain to me why this is a match? I’m still very confused… Anyways, as much as I want KO to retain, Goldberg is Goldberg.
Winner: Goldberg

Grady (33% accurate for 2017):
Sorry Kev… you ain’t beating Goldberg.
Winner: Goldberg

Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns

Mister J:
Surely it’s time for Braun Strowman to get the big win. Is he indeed the kryptonite to Roman’s Superman Punch? I certainly think so. His beard game is far stronger, and I believe that will be the deciding factor in this match.
Winner: Braun Strowman

David:
Braun Strowman has really impressed me over the last couple of months. On paper, Reigns should outclass Strowman, but I’m backing the upset.
Winner: Braun Strowman

Richard:
The match of the big-hitters! After the contract signing on Raw we know that neither man will be backing down. I’m becoming a big fan of what Strowman is capable of doing in the ring.
Winner: Braun Strowman

Blake:
This will be a fun match to watch. Unfortunately for the majority of rasslin’ fans, methinks The Guy will be Superman Punching his way to victory.
Winner: Roman Reigns

Grady:
This should be a good match, both guys can go, but Braun Strowman is an unstoppable monster. I think Roman Reigns will put up a good fight, but ultimately fall to the strength of Strowman.
Winner: Braun Strowman

Raw Women’s Championship:
Bayley (c) vs. Charlotte Flair

Mister J:
It goes against all I believe in, but even my cold, dead heart can’t help but warm to Bayley. That being said, we have seen time and time again when Charlotte Flair is down, it’s never for long. Like they used to say about her dad, she “doesn’t even sleep on her back”. It’s going to be a battle, but in the words of Charlotte, North Carolina’s own city council: “Charlotte’s got a lot!”
Winner: Charlotte Flair

David:
I don’t know how she does it, but there’s something magical when it comes to Charlotte on pay-per-view. I guess Bayley’s got a shot at winning it back on Raw?
Winner: Charlotte Flair

Richard:
Charlotte is undefeated on pay-per-view, and I don’t see that changing.
Winner: Charlotte Flair

Blake:
I mean, c’mon…
Winner: Charlotte Flair

Grady:
Please don’t let Charlotte win the title back again. Please!
Winner: Bayley

Raw Tag Team Championship:
Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows (c) vs. Big Cass & Enzo Amore

Mister J:
Why are the multi-time champions facing off against the Mutt and Jeff (ask your parents who they are) of professional wrestling? The Certified G sounds like he belongs in a sketch on Sesame Street, but I guess “you can’t teach that” (the English language, that is).
Winners: Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows

David:
Big Cass always seems to be sticking up for Enzo Amore, but has Enzo been pulling his weight? Both Anderson and Gallows are match-enders, and should be able to retain their titles.
Winners: Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows

Richard:
Gallows and Anderson have been teaming together a long time and have been champions all over the world. They know how to keep hold of a title.
Winners. Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows

Blake:
What happened to Sheamus and Cesaro? And The New Day? This is the coin toss match of the month.
Winners: Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows

Grady:
Enzo and Cass don’t seem to be on the same page right now, and The Club know exactly how to exploit any weakness from their opponents. As much as I would love to see the gold around Enzo and Cass’ waists, I think it’s staying with Anderson and Gallows.
Winners: Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows

Cruiserweight Championship:
Neville (c) vs. Jack Gallagher

Mister J:
Oh, come on now! The guy with the umbrella? Is there anything sadder than a wrestler doing a Mary Poppins gimmick?
Winner: Neville

David:
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Gallagher take an early lead in this match, but when it comes down to it and the pressure’s on, Neville knows how to deliver.
Winner: Neville

Richard:
I’m really looking forward to this one. I love watching what Gentleman Jack can do in that ring but I’m not sure he has that mean streak he will need to topple the King of the Cruiserweights.
Winner: Neville

Blake:
Remember when Gallagher was “extraordinary”? This is the only reason he won’t win. The only reason.
Winner: Neville

Grady:
The cruiserweight division is heating up, and no one is safe with the looming debut of Austin Aries. My heart says Gallagher, but every time I think about it seriously I can’t see him getting the purple strap off Neville.
Winner: Neville

Sami Zayn vs. Samoa Joe

Mister J:
Samoa Joe has been monstering guys for years. Samoa Joe is the guy the monsters on Skull Island fear. Samoa Joe is the guy who has a Grizzly Bear rug in his room – it’s not dead, it’s just afraid to move. I predict Sami Zayn will be the same after this match.
Winner: Samoa Joe

David:
You can’t question the heart of Sami Zayn. You can question whether that’s enough to win the match. I don’t think it is.
Winner: Samoa Joe

Richard:
Joe has been a force to be reckoned with since his debut on NXT and his actions on Raw have only proven that point even more.
Winner: Samoa Joe

Blake:
Samoa Joe. Samoa Joe.
Winner: Samoa Joe

Grady:
How many times can Stephanie and Mick feed Sami Zayn to monsters? Surely it is illegal at this point.
Winner: Samoa Joe

Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks

Mister J:
Nia Jax is angry, Sasha Banks. You won’t like her when she’s angry.
Winner: Nia Jax

David:
Sasha seems to be close to 100 per cent, right? Nia’s far from an easy opponent, but with a more even playing field I’m sure The Boss can get back to her winning ways.
Winner: Sasha Banks

Richard:
I’m hoping The Boss can pull this one out and kick start her push to WrestleMania so we can see her challenge for the Raw Women’s Championship again.
Winner: Sasha Banks

Blake:
Nia Jax. Nia Jax.
Winner: Nia Jax

Grady:
Nia Jax won the last time these two met on pay-per-view, but Sasha Banks is not injured this time. I think that will tip the scales in her favour to pick up the win—barely—but not avoid a gruelling beat-down from Jax.
Winner: Sasha Banks

Akira Tozawa & Rich Swann vs. Brian Kendrick & Noam Dar [WWE Fastlane Kickoff Match]

Mister J:
Who, and what now? Who are these people? You’ve made this up just to see I’m paying attention, right? Wait… Brian Kendrick? Oh yeah, I know him. He’s okay, I guess.
Winners: Brian Kendrick & Noam Dar

David:
Brian Kendrick doesn’t seem to like Akira Tozawa, but I sure do!
Winners: Akira Tozawa & Rich Swann

Richard:
Tozawa has been taunted by Brian Kendrick for a few weeks now and this is his big chance to get some revenge. Although, with Noam Dar in the match, I would not be surprised to see Alicia Fox involved too.
Winners: Akira Tozawa & Rich Swann

Blake:
Argh!
Winners: Akira Tozawa & Rich Swann

Grady:
It isn’t a six-man tag match, so I can’t be disappointed. Tozawa is hot right now, and Dar is a little distracted with Alicia Fox, so I think Tozawa and Swann can grab the win.
Winners: Akira Tozawa & Rich Swann
