NZPWI Roundtable: WWE No Mercy

Universal Championship:
Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Braun Strowman

Grady Hooker:
This is going to be a good one. If anyone can get a five-star match out of Brock Lesnar it’s going to be Braun Strowman. I know that Lesnar is the final boss, but it’s time for someone to topple the king and conquer WWE. What better man—monster—to do it than Strowman? This one is going to be brutal, bloody, and damn fine.
Winner: Braun Strowman

Steve McCleary:
BRRRRRAAAAAUUUUUNNNNN!
Winner: Braun Strowman

Richard Butler:
This is going to be epic! A real clash of titans. I’m picking Strowman to walk away with the title here and begin a reign of dominance.
Winner: Braun Strowman

Mister J:
To be fair, this is a match I thought they would be holding off until WrestleMania, so the fact we are getting it now makes it even tougher to call. What I mean is, Strowman is an unstoppable force, but still largely untested… but The Beast Incarnate has shown a few chinks in his armour in the last year or so as well. It is a battle for the ages for sure, at least as tough to call as that time KITT from Knight Rider went up against GOLIATH the super-powered truck. However, I’m going to go with the odds and say Brock’s got this.
Winner: Brock Lesnar

David Dunn:
Lesnar has been taken by surprise before (Goldberg, Survivor Series 2016) but after encountering Strowman at SummerSlam he should know what he’s up against.
Winner: Brock Lesnar

John Cena vs. Roman Reigns

Grady Hooker:
Cena is John Cena, but Reigns is Roman Reigns, so they are almost on equal footing there. This is going to be a good match and I think it will truly be the passing of the torch if Reigns is able to pick up the win. The war of words and everything leading up to it has really hyped me up for this match and I look forward to seeing my man Roman Reigns walk out the victor.
Winner: Roman Reigns

Steve McCleary:
Reigns can brag all he wants, but beating up an old man with a bad hip doesn’t make you a dog or whatever. It makes you kind of a dick. Time for John to neuter this pet.
Winner: John Cena

Richard Butler:
I think the torch might get passed here from Cena to Reigns. Cena is great but he just can’t keep up any more.
Winner: Roman Reigns

Mister J:
Roman Reigns can’t see John Cena, and that will be his downfall.
Winner: John Cena

David Dunn:
John Cena hasn’t been this invested in a match since his battles with The Rock that broke WrestleMania records. And we all know who came out better off at WrestleMania 29.
Winner: John Cena

Raw Tag Team Championship:
Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins (c) vs. Cesaro & Sheamus

Grady Hooker:
Ambrose and Rollins only just got the championships and every team on Raw is hot on their heels wanting to carry the gold (well… silver). Cesaro and Sheamus might be the ones who are in the ring with them at No Mercy, but they are not the only team that want to make an impact that night. I don’t know how the match will end, but Ambrose and Rollins will walk out with their titles.
Winners: Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins

Steve McCleary:
Cesaro and Sheamus may claim to set the bar as far as tag teams go, but the other team consists of a guy who slays kings, and a dude whose shirt says he’s unhinged. I think we can all agree that, despite their talent, you can’t get past that by wearing post-apocalyptic kilts.
Winners: Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins

Richard Butler:
I think Rollins and Ambrose have too much history and know each other too well to lose the championships so quickly.
Winners: Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins

Mister J:
WWE has somehow managed to take two of the top guys in recent WWE history, two of the most over guys in their company, and two thirds of one of the most popular factions in recent memory, and make them an average mid-card tag team. Even for WWE, that takes some doing. That being said, as much as I would like to see Cesaro tear them apart like they were a pair of troublesome beach balls… I cannot in good conscience, suggest a team Sheamus is on could be the victors.
Winners: Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins

David Dunn:
I like Sheamus and Cesaro, I really do, but with two-thirds of The Shield holding the Raw Tag Team Championship it seems like a bad time to be the challengers.
Winners: Dean Ambrose & Sheamus

Raw Women’s Championship:
Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Bayley vs. Emma vs. Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks

Grady Hooker:
With Asuka on the horizon I’m not sure if I would want to be the Raw Women’s Champion when she shows up… but if someone has a chance against her it is going to be Nia Jax. I don’t think this is quite the event to let Jax win though, and Alexa Bliss is going to retain.
Winner: Alexa Bliss

Steve McCleary:
She started the Women’s Revolution™, don’t you know!
Winner: Emma

Richard Butler:
This is a nightmare for a champion. That said, Miss Bliss is very resourceful and I think she will leave as she entered: champion.
Winner: Alexa Bliss.

Mister J:
Alexa Bliss has really proved to be the MVP of the women’s division in the past few months, and with that division as stacked as it is currently, that’s certainly saying something. Although she has come up, er, short… in her recent interactions with Nia Jax, I fully believe she is still sneaky enough to walk away the champ. Or limp away, as the case may be.
Winner: Alexa Bliss

David Dunn:
Bayley’s injury forced her to sit on the sidelines, watching, planning, and preparing herself for the next time she got a shot at the Raw Women’s Championship. Today is the day!
Winner: Bayley

Intercontinental Championship:
The Miz (c) vs. Jason Jordan

Grady Hooker:
The Miztourage could be a factor here, but I think Jason Jordan might finally see some singles gold around his waist in the near future. He has that Angle blood running through him and that should be enough to topple a great superstar like The Miz at least once.
Winner: Jason Jordan

Steve McCleary:
Because he’s the next generation of great! His theme song told me. Repeatedly.
Winner: Jason Jordan

Richard Butler:
One-on-one, I’d go with Jason Jordan. However, we all know this won’t be one-on-one. I say The Miz wins this one, but he won’t be holding that championship too much longer.
Winner: The Miz

Mister J:
The Miz is probably the most entertaining guy on WWE TV, and also the man who delivers the truth bombs of late too. So here’s a truth bomb for you all: Miz to win, cementing his claim as the greatest Intercontinental Champion since… well, since Honky Tonk Man anyway…
Winner: The Miz

David Dunn:
Jason Jordan has all the tools to get the job done, but with The Miztourage waiting to get involved, I don’t like his chances.
Winner: The Miz

Cruiserweight Championship:
Neville (c) vs. Enzo Amore

Grady Hooker:
Enzo has done nothing other than get his ass kicked by every man and his dog lately and somehow I am to believe he can topple the King of the Cruiserweights? No thanks.
Winner: Neville

Steve McCleary:
Ha. Haha. Hahaha!
Winner: Neville

Richard Butler:
I really want to be wrong with this one, but I’m going with Enzo.
Winner: Enzo Amore

Mister J:
Whilst the “Man Who Gravity Forgot” is fast becoming the “Man Who Everyone Forgot” on 205 Live, I’m sure he can beat Enzo Amore. I don’t even want to think of Enzo winning this, even though everything tells me it may very well be the case. Please don’t let it be the case, Neville.
Winner: Neville

David Dunn:
Neville is far too dominant a champion to let someone so new to the division take his title, right?
Winner: Neville

Bray Wyatt vs. Finn Balor

Grady Hooker:
Finn Balor has already beaten Bray Wyatt once, but that was “The Demon”. Now we get to see the man behind the facepaint take on the Eater of Worlds. I think the outcome will be a carbon copy of what we saw last time with Finn Balor walking out the victor.
Winner: Finn Balor

Steve McCleary:
Like, I’m pretty sure Finn without the paint is the same guy that wears the paint and beat Bray before, despite the upcoming WWE 2K18 game making them two separate characters. I guess it really comes down to that. What a mystery!
Winner: Finn Balor

Richard Butler:
Without becoming “The Demon”, I’m not sure how Balor will go. Wyatt is always in that dark place and I’m not sure Finn can get past him without going there.
Winner: Bray Wyatt

Mister J:
Remember when Bray Wyatt was the Eater of Worlds? Remember when Bray Wyatt was one of the most interesting guys on TV week in, week out? Remember when his pay-per-view matches were always some of the best on the show? It all seems so long ago, doesn’t it?
Winner: Finn Balor

David Dunn:
It seems to me the “Eater of Worlds” is poised to become an “Eater of Words”.
Winner: Finn Balor
