Styles overcomes Mahal at WWE Clash
Styles overcame a motivated Jinder Mahal in the main event of WWE Clash of Champions in Boston yesterday afternoon.
Mahal, using his guaranteed rematch since losing the WWE Championship to Styles in England, took the fight to Styles at the historic TD Garden.
With the Singh Brothers in his corner, Mahal targetted Styles’ ribs – ramming the WWE Champion against the security barricade and the commentary table.
Styles managed to fight through the pain and nail Mahal with a Springboard 450 Splash back in the ring. However, the high-risk move put further pressure on his midsection and meant Styles was unable to cover Mahal in a hurry.
When Styles did try to pin his challenger, Samir and Sunil Singh dragged Mahal under the bottom rope to save the Modern Day Maharaja.
Styles quickly vaulted over the top rope to wipe out both Singh Brothers.
Back in the ring, Mahal clipped Styles with a knee to the back and followed up with his signature Khallas. Styles was barely able to kick out.
Closing in on a victory, Mahal deviated from his gameplan and tried to add insult to injury by using a Styles Clash. Styles, the innovator of the move, knew how to counter and rolled Mahal into a Calf Crusher.
Mahal scrambled to reach the ropes but Styles rolled the Modern Day Maharaja back to the centre of the ring. With the pressure building, Styles tightened his grip and forced Mahal to submit.
