With the TNT Championship tournament looming, Shawn Spears may have emerged as the frontrunner.
AEW’s “Chairman” pinned Darby Allin in a tag team Dynamite main event, giving Spears momentum heading into his first-round match against Cody next week.
The frustrating loss to Spears and partner Sammy Guevara caused Allin to lash out at Cody. Allin floored “The American Nightmare” with a forearm post-match.
All eyes were on Allin – who meets Sammy Guevara in the first round of the TNT Championship tournament – during the Dynamite main event.
Allin shocked Guevara and Spears with an insane Coffin Drop on the outside of the ring.

Guevara prevented an in-ring Coffin Drop to Shawn Spears when he pushed Allin from the top rope. Despite a dangerous landing against the security barricade, Allin was still able to save Cody from Shawn Spears and a steel chair.
Spears stole the win with a roll-up while Allin was still focussed on the chair. When Cody tried to console Allin, he was rocked with a forearm.
In addition to Cody vs. Spears and Allin vs. Guevara, the TNT Championship tournament bracket will also feature Dustin Rhodes vs. Kip Sabian, and Colt Cabana vs. Lance Archer.
Cody takes on Shawn Spears to begin the tournament next week.
