To be fair, I don't think National really have any idea what to do either. The country's broke...but they don't want to alienate any one group too much to fix things, hence a complete non-event of a budget.

Heh, I just had a dream that I was sharing a taxi with John Key and he asked what I thought of the budget, and I said "You shouldn't sell off public assets, because then next time the money runs out you'll have even less than you do now." Then for some reason Roundboy was there and said he thought 4% was a poor rate of return for the earthquake bonds.

Distraction. Same as the tinkering with KiwiSaver and Student Loans. They're the things getting the headlines, but they're only saving the government up to half a billion dollars over the next three years.

On the other hand, the government will also be cutting back state spending by one and a half billion over the next three years - but without legislated reductions in services or entitlements.

So, to make sure we're clear what that means, government departments will be require to administer the same laws and provides the same public services as now, but with a billion dollars less to do so. And National are going "oh, we're not cutting back state services, look, we're not cutting entitlements." Just making it even harder for the state sector to do what is expected for it to do.

A naked person running from your house, regardless of sex or consent is always going to end a political career if it sees the light of day. Job performance is only a small part of being a politician.

Not sure if this has been mentioned http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2011/06/Internet-a-human-right/ those opposing the new Govt internet law should really be using this as one of their main ammunitions.

Thanks to cracked.com once again.

Well, apparently the government has chosen to ignore such things as basic human rights and is refusing to even consider changing their bendoverandtakeitlikeadrunkstudentatAnnetteKingshouse internet copyright laws.

I think there are far more pressing issues to address than a few movies and albums downloaded.

Yup, like the political pressure bought to bear on our government by US lobbyists in both the entertainment and drug industries.

What the fuck is wrong with these c*nts? They violate somebody's Human Rights, then have the arrogance to not only not apologise, but act like they did nothing wrong, and furthermore act like he deserved it and should stop whining about it. Seriously, what? What in the fuck is wrong when both the Chief Executive of the Ministry of Social Development, and the vice president of the Police Association, are actually "outraged" that a prisoner's human rights were respected?

I'm going to go vandalise some government property.

If you were in prison for theft and you were mistakenly listed as being in jail for paedophilia, how do you think that will affect a prisoner?

Yeah, instead of being listed as bashing police he was listed as bashing his partner. One particular type of bashing has a higher amount of stigma attached to it than the other.

I used that particular example so MaccLad would understand it.

Having your record read that you were convicted of rape or child abuse when you wern't is a more exaggerated example, but it's the same principle. Who gives a shit if he smashed an Officer's face in? Police by the nature of their job are expendable grunts to begin with, like soldiers, not to mention that they deserve everything they get anyway. But being convicted of domestic abuse is a kettle of fish which actually matters.

Which, still, is irrelevant. Our opinions about whether or not he was enough of a big meanie to deserve for bad things to happen to him doesn't even enter the equation; the bottom line is that knowingly wrongfully convicting a person of anything is a human rights violation regardless of whether any of us think it should be in this case or not. And these kinds of attitudes from these kinds of people undermine the entire point of the justice system these idiots claim to support and represent. So I guess the joke's on them ultimately, but goddamn. I guess what I'm trying to say more concisely worded would be "FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-"

Yep, well the police representatives and Rodney Hide know full well that they can make all the idiotic emotive statements they want because the public eat that sort of thing up.

Who got wrongfully convicted? He's just been mistakenly categorised by the MSD, hasn't he?
