Yes, yes he did, I think a couple of players lost it more than he won it down the stretch but he has been playing well and out of the young guns hes one who deserved it. More than that fuckhead Dufner anyway haha.

Haha, Yea, Jim lost it on the 16th. I think the pressure just really got to people. I was hoping that it would go to a playoff with McDowell.

The one who's stronger psychologically will win the run-off.

Exactly, so it'll come down to psychology I reckon-who can handle the gravity of the consequences etc.

I tend to agree with Shazza that the psychological factor will effect one of them more, and they will be more likely to lose.

When you are running the final trial or whatever, i assume you are so focused that you aren't sure if what you are gonna put out there is gonna be good enough or not. You might see someone ahead of you but you know deep down even if you don't catch them you are still a chance to bink another spot (especially if the one you see in front is someone you would expect to lose to).
But this time they may find themselves behind and will definitely know that they HAVE to get up and go past the other FTW, i can see how that might fuck with you.
Also since there is a good chance that they won't see each other at all really, the possibility that you mentally get down on yourself a little if you say have an more average start than usual, or maybe do some other thing that can go wrong during the race (i dunno what that is haha) with such high stakes, its pretty tough. You might feel like you have instantly let yourself down and ruined your chances etc if you are not as mentally tough as you could be.

D.Star how do they pick lanes for a run off? surely that could be quite important.

I wanna bet on this now.

I have no idea, but if they put them in the lanes next to each other that'd be epic. To be honest I'm surprised they haven't tried for dispensation so that both can be included, maybe they'll both go and if someone pulls out... I've never heard of this before - that's why I posted.

It's totally all in the head, basically if someone doesn't quite have the reaction of the other out of the blocks it's all over when both athletes are that close. Also, on the other side, running blind can affect alot of sprinters too. I know when I used to run I liked to be just behind the leader if we were equal - and that used to happen alot 'cos my start sucked. It's funny when you're sprinting straight after you remember nothing, like say if you had something on your mind to concentrate on it's totally lost. Repetition is key, 'cos when you're running on autopilot and can relax that's when you bust out fast times.

...unless of course one of them busts out a massive PB - but then we can't really comment on things that haven't happened yet. At least you know mental toughness will play a part. :)

This might sound stupid, but it can be huge for horses in horse racing.....

Did you or do you have a side which you hate other sprinters to be close to you, compared to the other?
Like if you are in lane 4 and say either lane 3 or lane 5 had to be next to you, would you have a preference?

Just thinking about the randomness of how they figure out the lanes.

They should just be given the lanes assigned in the last race.

Not really in 100m, but in 200/400 you'd want that person to be outside you.

Also, I preferred to have empty lanes in the 100m, unless of course it was an important race like a final. 'cos if you sorta feel like you're alone you'll run relaxed but in a final you need to be pushed to improve as a sprinter.

I didn't realise you did international meets etc. D. Star. What were your record times for 100/200?

Yeah I did a few, mostly U20/Senior Aussie champs and one Oceania, never further than that.

Oh and Robin Tait, Porritt Classic, Capital Classic and Marley Games if you class them as 'international' meets. Or have even heard of them at all...

Oh yuck, so not clicking that. Broken legs are much worse for me to watch than say, someone getting decapitated.
