4 week ban for Inglis! 5 if he fights the change and loses.

12 week ban for Travis Burns! 16 if he fights the charges and loses.

7 other players also charged this weekend. Eep.

I was gonna make a similar Bowen reply, i was shooting for something like "i can't believe Bowen is STILL holding onto that hair".
Decided against it.

Until now.

I think I overheard some league player this morning saying how they wanted to keep shoulder tackles in because Union style ball-and-all tackles are 'boring'. Sweet idiotic logic you have there buddy.

Well that's why they allow shoulder charges in league; to please the simple-minded.

They look good, but really there's little skill involved, and the risk balance is completely unfair, the charger takes very little risk on his body, while the recipient bears the full risk-potentially death if it catches him square on the head enough.

In my grade in hamilton i wish the shoulder tackle was banned, as shazza said it takes no skill. Really hurts being on the recieving end of it when its high. But as a nrl fan it would suck if they scratch it from the game. Its entertaining to watch.

Don't scratch it from the game, but saying the ball-and-all is boring is stupid. I woulda thought more players would want to do that in league to lessen the chances of an off load. But no. Need mean hitz bro!

Inglis' hit certainly stopped an offload I guess.

I don't think it applies to just the simple minded. A shoulder charge executed correctly gets everyone off their feet, it can be spectacular.

Fui Fui Moi Moi got knocked out in the 10th second from a regular tackle gone wrong. But we haven't heard anything about banning regular tackles have we? Or Burns on Sunday for that matter.

This talk of banning it is alarmist rubbish and I hope the NRL sticks firm on its position from earlier in the year.

Done properly I would argue there is skill and timing involved. SBW had some great hits during his time in the NRL and I can't remember him ever getting suspended from one of them (could be wrong though). By all means penalise contact with the head harshly, it will encourage players to try and bring some skill into it rather than sprinting wildly into it a la Inglis.

Also if you don't think the tackler is taking any risk you obviously didn't see Richie Fa'aoso get knocked out attempting to shoulder charge Kasiano earlier this year, or Jerome Ropati on Joel Clinton a couple of years ago.

Very little. You mention two incidents in three or so years, I can guarantee that for the chargee it's many, many, multiples of that.

I don't deny there's timing involved, but really given that the ball runner is coming straight at you it's fish in a barrell sort of stuff.

In any event, the defenders have an advantage anyway, 3 or 4 times a set the attacker is running at 3 guys anyway. The players know there is a chance they may get belted. That's part of rugby league.

Like others have mentioned, don't ban it, but by all means up the penalty/grading for contact with head in general (say, shoulder charge connecting to head being higher penalty/grading than a stray arm or "regular" high tackle).

When they conduct their report into how shoulder charges affect the head/brain/neck etc, it will be interesting to see if they give it context by comparing different types of tackles (both legal & illegal).

On another note, after a comment on LU forum about the winless Heritage jersey used in the weekend, decided to compare all the jerseys this year to corresponding results in the games they were worn in, winning % below :

Home (black with white/red V) : 75% (3/4 won) P/D + 26
Away (white with black/red V) : 36.4% (4/11 won) P/D + 5
Heritage (jade tiki) : 0% (0/2 won) P/D -23
Special (pink splatter WIL) : 100% (1/1 won) P/D + 17
Casual Jackets!!! (BYE) : 100% (2/2 "won") P/D 0

Might do a bit of research into all jerseys worn by Warriors, will be fun finding out just what the most "winningest" jerseys are (2002obv)!
