The Grizzlies were 13-33 at the time of the trade; the Lakers were 28-16.

"I was frozen when it happened," Gasol recalled. "I did not expect it, I did not believe it. I couldn't believe my life was going to change dramatically. I knew I could be a great fit here -- the system, the players, the style of game. It all felt right.

"A pretty good deal, I think."

A pretty good deal, to be sure. The Lakers went 22-5 with the Spanish star in the lineup, helping them earn the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. Even without Andrew Bynum, sidelined since Jan. 13 because of an injured left knee and with no timetable for a return, their postseason prospects appear quite good.

So after they acquired him they were 22-5 with him and 7-4 when he was injured. That's not counting the playoffs though where they are 13-6.

So overall (incl. playoffs) they are 35-11 with him in their lineup.

The New Orleans Hornets on Thursday signed free-agent Sean Marks, a nine-year NBA veteran who can play both power forward and center.

“We are excited for Sean to join our team,” said Hornets general manager Jeff Bower, who did not release terms of the contract, citing team policy. “He is a veteran leader who has been on winning teams and will be a great addition to our frontcourt.”

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound Marks has been a role player throughout his career with Toronto, Miami, San Antonio and Phoenix, averaging 3.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 9.1 minutes per game.

The former Cal-Berkeley standout also holds the distinction of being the first New Zealand native to play in the NBA.

Marks played in 19 games for the Suns during the 2007-08 season.

he keeps his streak of only playing two seasons for a team alive :p

Who's the second string center for the Hornets? I know Chandler doesn't always play big minutes, so hopefully there's more game time in store for Marks.

Crazy that a team based in Oklahoma City is in the Northwest division.

Yeah moving a team from Seattle to Oklahoma screws things up a little. They do have a shuffle once every few years though, so I'd imagine that would correct itself eventually.

Checked out the new logo and colour scheme?

A whole lot of meh.

Plus it's a bit rubbish stealing Thunder from the Warriors - Thunder is the name of their mascot. Plus another NBA team using blue. Super.

Haha, I thought that it was bad enough have Minnesota in the Northwest division - Oklahoma is worse!

The Raptors traded TJ Ford and a couple of others to Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal. If Jermaine O'Neal can stay healthy, Chris Bosh and O'Neal will be the best twin-tower duo since Duncan and the admiral.

The Clippers look a strong side this season with Baron Davis, Cuttino Mobley, Ricky Davis, Marcus Camby and Chris Kaman in their side.

You're right, and with a great showing against the Lakers in their exhibition match last week. Won by nearly 30 points!

I'm looking forward to following the Rockets this year, I think they're looking quite strong: Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, Ron Artest, Shane Battier, and Brent Barry!

And Luis Scola and Jamario Moon. That team's got talent. Too bad they have Mr First Round Tracy McGrady

First day of the regular season yesterday. Cavs pushed Boston to a tight game, Celts only just pushing away at the end.

I think Cavs have a good chance of going further this yeah, especially with another point scorer in Mo Williams.
