Hogan's house has a great pool. I want one. But then I'd have to take my shirt off. Ew.

R.I.P God of Wrestling. :(
It's a little bit sad that Mike Awesome's death will probably be more talked about and fussed over than Karl Gotch's, but that's life I guess.

Anybody got thoughts on what the 'match of the year' so far has been? Popular votes seem to be Marvin/Suzuki vs the Briscoes, KENTA vs Danielson III, Nakajima vs Kondo, Morishima vs McGuinness from the Tokyo show, and a couple others. I'm about to watch Morishima vs McGuinness in a bit, but so far everything else has been good, but not really, really great. I can't believe how overrated Danielson vs KENTA is, people seem to have convinced themselves it was teh faeve star matsh. Crazy finish, so-so everything else. So far the best of what I've been recommended has been the Shuji Kondo vs Katsuhiko Nakajima match, methinks.

Anybody got any ideas for possible 'match of the year' candidates I should check out?

Edit: Yep, Morishima vs McGunness was good. Real good. Showboating aside. Good in all its lariaty, lead-in-match-incorporating-psychology-ness. 'Match of the year' is a bit of a stretch though, really.

I've heard that Bryan Danielson vs Go Shiozaki is good, haven't seen it yet.

Ive seen KENTA vs Danielson from 2/12/06, was that their first? That was nothing special, so if thats anything to go by I can't imagine the third is much more spectacular.

I'm not sure of dates becauseI didn't get around to watching that match for ages, but that sounds as if it could have been their first.

And good looking out on reminding me of that Shiozaki match, I knew I was forgetting something. I can't imagine by any stretch of the imagination it'll have 'match of the year' potential (I'm really starting to hate that term, a lot) but I'm sure it'll completely rule. Because it's Danielson. And Shiozaki. And Danielson vs Shiozaki. And that is way more intriguing than most everything else this year.

MCMG VS. UlTIMO DRAGON AND JUSHIN LIGER.

only caps can accentuate how good that match was.

Or KENTA & Ishimori vs Marufuji & Iifush

Yeah the whole NTV cup was great. Definitely the highlight of the wrestling year. So far... more on that in a second. Also I watched Danielson/Shiozaki and it was even better than I thought it would be. Very, very nice. 'Match of year' it may not be, but definitely one of the better ROH matches this year. And better than Danielson/KENTA III.

Latest word seems to be that Samoa Joe is headed to NOAH. To compete. On Oct 27th. If that wasn't interesting enough, Misawa is apparently headed to ROH in November. Never say never I suppose.

I am going to go masturbate to the thought of Joe vs Takayama.

Precisely! :P
Too bad Joe will probably just get booked in some shoddily thrown together six man tag with Aoki and blah blah blah. Oh well. I'll mark like crazy as long as he ditches the crappy half of his ROH moveset.

Me being very ignorant to the japanese scene... Ive heard a few people about these two potentially being a dream match but very unlikely to ever happen. Why is looked at as a match thats not very likely to happen?

Pretty much, but his matches with J.C Bailey in the Indies are some of the stiffest shit ever.

Oh, absolutely, son. No one's doubting Necro's intestinal fortitude.

If you get past all the bloody Deathmatch "wrestling" he does, he is actually ok, But his hardcore stuff overshadows that though.

'Just because.'
It was always thought that Misawa would never go on an excursion to the US now, because he's old, busy running NOAH, hates America and most Americans, and there isn't really any promotions worth him making the effort to travel to the US for because the only promotions which otherwise would be worth it were thought to be 'too small' and insignificant for him to bother with, such as ROH. But now he's coming to ROH afterall for some reason. Figures. Right after Joe left.

Also on the flip side Japanese pro wrestling in general, and especially a promotion such as NOAH, is quite hierarchal. If Joe started working there he'd start at the bottom, and Misawa is the elite of the elite there, so it was thought that the only way Joe would ever even touch Misawa is if they happened to be on opposite ends of a vet/rookie vs vet/rookie or random throwaway six man tag match. Anybody being given a fair shake in a singles match against Misawa right off the bat would be a bit like AJ Styles walking into WWE and getting a good shot at John Cena in his first week.

There are a million reasons really. But if Joe had stuck with ROH instead of heading to TNA, I'd say it's pretty much a given that Misawa vs Joe would be happening in an ROH ring in November. Who knows, it might still happen yet, but I kind of doubt it unless Joe makes a once off appearance in ROH, or he works for NOAH a lot and climbs the ranks unbelievably quickly. It'd be a bit of a race against time though, because Misawa probably doesn't have a whole lot of time left in his active career.

A: I was often asked how I kept a straight face so well, when working with funny people like The Hurricane and William Regal. I eventually revealed that my secret (I am not joking here) was to visualize Lex Luger matches in my head and think about how much more money he made than me, and I found while doing that nothing seemed funny anymore.
