I think Hika Elliot and Mahonri Shcwalger have been a bit unfortunate in that they're both very good hookers, but have been swapping the starting role so much that it has kind of killed their momentum. They're both in great form and it has been working for the Chiefs, but unfortunately for them I think it really harmed their chances of being named.

It's a weird squad, you can certainly see why it's just a training team. A lot of those guys will be dropped and deservedly so. I don't think Romano, Luke Whitelock, Shields, Ali Williams or Piri Weepu deserve to be there at all. There are just better players in the competition and once again even though they haven't been their best at all, the Crusaders have far too much representation. Oh and Andre Taylor really deserved a spot and it probably should have been at Savea's expense. Just as I think Gear deserved it over Ellison. I find those decisions a little baffling.

In a biased note, Messam or Latimer most definitely should have been in there somewhere. They're in career best form and without them the Chiefs wouldn't be sitting up top.
