IBS Escapes Pacific Storm With Title
Aug 18, 2005 at 10:00 PM

IBS was lucky to escape with his title at NZWPW Pacific Storm this past Friday, which erupted in spectacular fashion. Defending his belt in a tag team match with Inferno by his side, IBS faced a huge challenge from Death Sentence members The Ram and The Punisher. As expected the match quickly broke down as all hell broke loose causing the match to be thrown out by referee Phil Woodgate.

Earlier in the night Rip announced IBS would be placing his title on the line. So if he lost the match he would lose the belt. With the pressure on IBS looked set on walking out with the belt firmly round his waist.

Both IBS and Inferno started strong by slugging away at the challengers, keeping both men on their back with a double dropkick that sent The Ram flying outside of the ring. With The Ram trying to regain his bearings outside both IBS and Inferno attempted drop the massive Punisher with a double shoulder block and a huge double dropkick which sent everyone to the outside of the ring as Woodgate quickly lost control. After softening him up with a series of right hands on the outside The Punisher rolled Inferno back in the ring to officially start the match. The Punisher continued his assault inside nearly breaking Inferno in half with a clothesline before tagging in The Ram.

Ram quickly nullified IBS by sending him flying off the apron, which gave both members of Death Sentence the chance to continue the assault on the prone Inferno. The Punisher kept up the assault with a series of chops, stomps and right hands and a significant amount of double teaming allowing the Death Sentence members to cut the ring in half as a restless IBS paced on the apron. After a brutal face buster to Inferno and consultation with The Punisher, The Ram locked Inferno in a sickening surfboard while talking trash to IBS, begging him to get in the ring before picking a nearly lifeless Inferno up and dropping him just as fast with the Fijian Sunrise. (Neck breaker) With Inferno successfully incapacitated The Punisher got the tag and proceeded to make a wish with The Ram over Inferno's legs as he desperately tried to crawl to his corner.

Inferno dug deep however and momentarily stopped the assault and began to crawl towards his desperate partner finally making the tag, But with referee Woodgate attending to The Ram he failed to see the tag and sent IBS back out to wait. With The Ram re-entering the fray Death Sentence again cut the ring in half and continued to wear Inferno down with double team manoeuvres, sleepers and sheer power combined with quick tags. With the crowd rallying behind him Inferno telegraphed The Punisher charging in for a clothesline and dodged at the last second leaving nothing but turnbuckle for the massive superstar followed by a massive dropkick which sent both men down to the canvas crawling for their respective corners.

The Punisher made the first tag quickly followed by Inferno to finally allow a fresh IBS into the ring. IBS was on fire from the outset with a flurry of clotheslines knocking The Ram down before attempting to knock The Punisher from his feet with two massive clotheslines. As IBS charged toward him with a third clothesline The Punisher moved and began pounding away on the champ and sent him to the corner and straight into Woodgate knocking him out cold as The Ram came in with a chair and evil intentions.

All hell broke loose as The Ram nailed both IBS and Inferno with multiple chair shots as NOS began brawling with X-Rated and Juice outside the ring. Rip Morgan then hit the ring to try and even things up but was taken care of by a chair shot from The Ram, which brought Buck down to even the odds and led to all four members of Death Sentence being pounded on in separate corners until Phil Woodgate came to and declared the match a no contest. After the match however The Punisher issued a challenge to Rip Morgan, IBS and Buck to a six man tag at the next NZWPW show set to take place in Porirua.

Pacific Storm also saw 'The One Man Revolution' Ivan Dragunov exact retribution against former friend Max Damage by wearing down the big youngster with various submission holds until trapping Max in the middle of the ring with the camel clutch leaving Damage no choice but to tap out. Damage would not be denied however and assaulted Dragunov after the bell until NOS made the save. The card also saw NOS taking on Creed in an awesome back and forth battle which ultimately ended in a draw when both men's shoulders hit the canvas for the three count.

NZWPW Pacific Storm Match Results

  • Dangerous Dan 'The Man' Sterling .def Shining Nick Silver
In his return to NZWPW the new look Shining One was overcome by the kickboxing champ despite X-Rated's help and a silver bullet (Tornado DDT) failing to keep Sterling down. Sterling took the win with a bridging death lock after a Dan Driver.

  • Juice (with X-Rated) .def Jean Miracle
After running down the fans that packed the Lower Hutt town hall, Juice dominated Jean Miracle for the majority of the match. Working on Miracles legs Juice took to using a sharpshooter but Miracle refused to tap. This led to Juice resorting to pinning Miracle with his feet all over the ropes for the win. After the match Miracle was left lying after a Simply Squeezed (Roll The Dice) and X Spot (FU) from both Juice and X Rated.

  • NOS Vs Creed - No Contest
In the fastest match of the night both men held nothing back and took the battle to air and the arena floor. Creed's attempts to wear down NOS would prove futile as NOS refused to wrestle at Creed's pace and kept speeding things up until attempting a fisherman's buster suplex which put both men's shoulders down for a three count.

  • Chrome (with Anna Lisa) .def Disturbed (with TNT and ????)
With a mystery blonde supporting TNT Disturbed threw all he had at Chrome but could not wear him down, even with TNT trying to keep Chrome down. With Phil Woodgate knocked out Disturbed set his sights on Anna Lisa until Chrome was able to make the save as the match disintegrated into a wild brawl which led to the locker room emptying to separate everyone and the announcement of an inter-gender tag match at the next show.

  • Ivan Dragunov .def Max Damage
In a battle of former friends both men let their feelings for one another known. Damage held the early advantage, beating down the Russian with right hands. In the end the Sambo expert was able to out wrestle the young rookie and after a massive spine buster locked in a camel clutch for the win.

  • IBS & Inferno Vs The Ram & The Punisher (NZWPW title on the line) - No Contest
In the nights biggest brawl both sides threw everything they had at the other. Death Sentence did well to keep Inferno away from IBS for as long as possible but once IBS got the tag chaos reigned. After steel chair shots, Referee's being knocked out and numerous run ins the match was thrown out by Phil Woodgate allowing IBS to escape with his title.
