IBS Retains Gold at NZWPW Invasion
Oct 07, 2005 at 08:39 PM

IBS once again felt Death Sentence's wrath in his title defence against the returning X Rated this past Friday as NZWPW's Invasion Tour hit the Lower Hutt Town Hall full force.

X Rated wasted no time trying to dethrone IBS attacking him before the opening bell but as the 2 men traded right hands mid ring Death Sentence made their way to the ring in what has become a familiar sight to the NZWPW faithful.

With Death Sentence surrounding the ring IBS took control of X Rated with 2 huge hip tosses followed by a legdrop sending the returning star outside to collect himself as The Punisher destroyed Inferno against the ring post for escorting IBS to the ring. Back in the ring X Rated took control after some help from The Ram and Juice. The raucous crowd rallied behind the champ as X Rated choked him along the bottom rope with some help from The Punisher.

Determined to slow IBS down X Rated locked in a chin lock before sending the champ outside the ring allowing him to be double teamed by The Punisher and The Ram while Juice and X Rated provided the distraction to veteran referee Phil Woodgate. When IBS was finally rolled back in the ring X Rated continued the punishment by nailing 2 huge leg drops before going right back to a chin lock grounding the champion.

With the champ in trouble the crowd rallied behind IBS which allowed the island boy to come back with a huge powerslam, but the numbers game was against him as The Punisher once again interfered to place X Rated's foot on the bottom rope stopping the referee's count and allowing X Rated to roll outside and collect himself again. Once both men were finally in the ring together X Rated began pounding away on IBS and nailed an impressive tilt a whirl DDT followed by a massive bulldog planting the champ. This still wasn't enough to keep IBS down however.

As X Rated turned his attention to the fans IBS slowly made his way back to his feet until he was nailed with a thumb to the eye courtesy of X Rated. The Death Sentence member continued to dominate the champ as he pounded away on a defenceless IBS in the corner until IBS was able to reverse the offence and nailed the cocky challenger with 10 huge right hands but that was only good for a 2 count. Following X Rated's lead IBS then locked in a reverse chin lock but again Death Sentence proved their worth as Juice distracted Woodgate long enough for The Punisher to pull X Rated back outside.

After a brief break X Rated slid back into the ring and was promptly beat down by IBS until nailing a modified running fame asser which only got him a 2 count. With both men exhausted it was a struggle for either on to reach a vertical base, when out of nowhere IBS nailed a huge spinebuster. With the adrenaline flowing IBS took the time to show off his dancing skills before catching the challenger with a spinning sidewalk slam but the numbers were too much for him to overcome as Death Sentence hit the ring to break up the pin and give the match to IBS.

Death Sentence continued to pound on both IBS and Inferno even calling for Max Damage to join them until Max turned on and took down all 5 men of the notorious faction until being nailed by The Punisher allowing Death Sentence to regain control until the locker room emptied and Rip Morgan, Jean Miracle, NOS and Ivan Dragunov all hit the ring to make the save but not before The Punisher was given a No DQ title match against IBS next Saturday at Wellington High School.

The second leg of Invasion also saw Juice defeat NOS with help from The Ram whose distraction allowed Juice to blast NOS with Ram's chain and take the 3 count. Juice would repay the favour later in the night allowing The Ram to defeat Jean Miracle after hitting him with his own oven pan. On top of this emotion in the announcers booth finally boiled over between Blair Rhodes and Adam Hunt as a fed up Rhodes challenged Hunt to a match when NZWPW return to the town hall. After accepting Hunt snapped and destroyed his commentary partner and assaulted Chrome before slinking to the back.

NZWPW Invasion Show 2 Match Results:

  • Disturbed .def Chrome
Disturbed finally broke his losing streak and showed the fans he is no joke in his win over Chrome. From the opening bell the deranged one worked over Chromes legs before cinching in a modified ankle lock in mid ring forcing Chrome to tap out.

  • The Saint Vs Shining Nick Silver - No Contest
Due to the injuries Shining Nick Silver suffered against The Saint at the first Invasion show he was unable to compete in his scheduled match. The Saint then took his time to insult the fans and everyone in the locker room before threatening IBS.

  • Anna Lisa .def Mickey (with Stevey)
This match never really got underway as shortly after the bell rang Mickey and Stevey teamed up to brutally double team Anna Lisa and continued to beat her down long after the bell rang until Phil Woodgate eventually broke it up.

  • Juice (with The Ram/Stevey) .def NOS
Juice rebounded off his loss to IBS at the last show with a win over NOS after using The Ram's chain to turn NOS's lights out while The Ram distracted the referee. Despite the number's advantage NOS put up a brave fight controlling Juice for much of the match and looked to have the match won after nailing the Overdrive (Michinokou Driver).

  • The Ram .def Jean Miracle
Despite his promise to turn The Ram into roast lamb Jean Miracle would come up short. After having Miracle kick out of the Fijian Sunset (Neckbreaker) Ram looked to Juice to distract the referee as he blasted Miracle with his own roasting tray to take the 3 count.

  • Inferno .def Max Damage
In the powerhouse battle of the night Inferno was able to even the score with Max Damage by taking the win despite not being able to use his patented Afterburner chokeslam, instead it was the Extinguisher (Dudley Dog) that gave Inferno the victory. After the match Inferno expressed his respect for Max and the loyal NZWPW fans.

  • IBS .def X Rated
IBS once again escaped with his title despite being on the receiving end of another brutal beating. After a back and forth battle it came down to Death Sentence breaking up a cover on their comrade X Rated after IBS nailed a huge swinging sidewalk slam and proceeding to beat down both Inferno and IBS until Rip Morgan, NOS, Ivan Dragunov and Jean Miracle made the save.
