A raucous crowd was on hand as NZWPW hit Otaki this past Friday night presenting St Patrick’s Day Bash. The first NZWPW event to be held in Otaki was headlined by a massive double main event the first half of which saw reigning NZWPW champion, Juice taking on long time nemesis and former friend Inferno. The Otaki memorial hall was on fire for the challenger as both men squared off mid ring in the 8th meeting between the 2 men. Juice proved why he is champion from the get go slowing the larger Inferno down with three consecutive side headlock take over’s before locking in a side headlock to ground the big man. Juice kept the pressure on Inferno with yet another side headlock and even resorting to pulling the challengers hair. Inferno was not to be put down that easily though as he fought back, outwitting the champion with a series of leapfrogs which sent the champion to the outside. Once back in the ring Juice continued the pressure by locking in a set of hammer locks, trying to disable the big mans arm to prevent the Afterburner chokeslam. Inferno however proved his skill as he was able to reverse Juice’s armlocks into his own armbar and followed it up with a massive legdrop. Juice proved however he had his opponent well scouted as he avoided a massive elbow drop from the big man. With both men now back to square one the champion called for a test of strength. Juice took the early advantage but both men proved their knowledge of each other as they exchanged monkey flips mid ring both looking for the elusive 3 count. The reversals continued as both challenger and champion began exchanging sleeper holds before reverting back into the roll ups. Juice had had enough at this point and blasted the challenger with a powerful superkick. With Inferno down Juice locked in what could be described as a blatant choke before deciding the ropes would provide better leverage and continued the assault on the challenger’s neck by delivering a powerful scoop slam, leg drop combination for a 2 count. Not satisfied yet, Juice locked in a chinlock trying to wear the big man out further. Inferno fought back however, surprising Juice with a tilt-a-whirl sideslam and a debilitating clothesline before sending the champion into the corner and looked to charge. Juice proved his champion status however as he slipped out of the corner at the last second and hung Inferno out to dry on the top rope. Juice proved he could do whatever Inferno could next as he nailed the challenger with a huge stinger splash. His cockiness got the better of him once again however as he went to the well once to often and paid for it by being flung over the top rope to the floor. Inferno wasn’t about to let his title chance slip away with a countout and brought the champ in over the top before setting him on the top rope and connecting with a huge top rope hurricanrana. Despite the impact he could only manage a 2 count. As both men lay exhausted on the mat Juice surprised the challenger with a tombstone out of nowhere. Not satisfied with the result however Juice looked for the Simply Squeezed but his cockiness proved his undoing as Inferno fought back with a huge Extinguisher (Dudley Dog) which sent both men down gasping for breath. Inferno showed the first signs of life barely draping an arm across the champ yet Juice again got to the ropes. Inferno got to his feet first and was able to catch the champion with a huge Afterburner chokeslam that would have definitely been 3. Yet The Ram made his presence known and distracted veteran referee Phil Woodgate. The distraction proved enough however as Juice wasted no time in nailing the challenger with a low blow and the Simply Squeezed for the 3 count and a successful title defence. The other half of the double main event saw the powerhouse team of Max Damage and The Ram (with the Angel Of Destruction) taking on the dream team of N.O.S and H – Flame. The match was a fast and furious affair with Damage & Ram looking to take any advantage necessary to keep in control of the match including distracting Phil Woodgate and blatantly cheating. Constant switches between the 2 meant that N.O.S was unable to make the tag to an increasingly frustrated H – Flame. When H – Flame finally tagged in he was met with the same powerful resistance in the form of a technical assault from The Ram ending when The Ram cinched in The Ram Lock (modified Steiner Recliner). H – Flame refused to go down however and drove The Ram back first into the turnbuckle. With both men down, both Damage and N.O.S were desperate for the tag in. Both men hit the ring at the same time and all hell broke loose in short order. Damage looked to finish H - Flame with a crushing avalanche in the corner but was unable to connect and instead sent his partner flying off the apron. N.O.S was ready and waiting however along with H – Flame and both men were able to hook Damage up with a modified Hart Attack to send the massive Damage down for the 3 count. St Patrick’s Day Bash also saw the debuts of 2 new stars for NZWPW as Jimmy Sparks took on the imposing Adam Avalanche and a competitor known only as CD took on an arrogant Silencer Jean Miracle. NZWPW’s St Patrick’s Day Bash Results;
In the first of 2 debuts for NZWPW Avalanche continued his winning streak by crushing the new young upstart with a massive splash that was powerful enough to send the ring through the floor of the Otaki hall.
In the Russian’s return to the ring he proved he has lost none of the technical skill that makes him so dangerous in the ring as he dominated Chrome with numerous submissions holds ranging from Indian death locks through to basic chinlock. Despite Chromes best efforts however he was forced to tap out to the one man revolution after being caught in a triangle armbar mid-ring.
An absence of Miracle's advertised opponent, The Saint. Blair Rhodes issued an open challenge to anyone from the crowd to step up and take on the imposing Silencer. A young man known only as CD stepped up and got into the ring to take on SJM. Despite showing the skills needed to keep his more experience opponent down the young rookie’s inexperience proved no match for Silencer’s Screwdriver Remix (Single underhook neckbreaker).
In his search for an elusive win Shining Nick looked to try and dethrone a returning D Hoya. After a brief back and forth D Hoya rose to the occasion, and proved he has lost nothing in his absence by first nailing SNS with the Liquidiser (Spinning shin kick) followed in short order by The End Of The World (Military press into swinging, sit out rock bottom).NZWPW Heavyweight Title Match
In his first title defence in 4 months Juice went into Otaki as the champion and looked to leave Otaki champion in the early stages. Yet Inferno would not stay down and surprised Juice with a huge top rope hurricanrana. Yet it would be The Ram distracting both Phil Woodgate and Inferno that allowed Juice to nail a low blow followed by the Simply Squeezed for the 1, 2, and 3.
The sheer power and technical prowess of Max Damage and The Ram looked like it would be impossible to overcome in the early stages of this epic tag team match. With The Angel Of Destruction in their corner keeping things in the favor when need be it looked like a sure fire win for the newly formed team. Yet the heart and quick thinking of N.O.S and H – Flame proved to be the difference maker as H – Flame moved at the last second to avoid a rampaging Damage who took out his own partner before turning round into a Hart Attack from N.O.S and H – Flame that was enough for the win. |
