D Hoya Overcomes the Avalanche at Hit The Road
Jun 16, 2006 at 09:52 PM

Adam Avalanche suffered his first professional loss at the hands of NZWPW Heavyweight Champion D-Hoya this past Friday at NZWPW Hit the Road.

Avalanche started the match full of confidence, but the crowd support for D-Hoya seemed to be getting to the big man, causing him to take his attention off of the champion and miss a stinger splash in the corner, allowing D-Hoya to score a roll up and a near fall early into the match. D-Hoya maintained his advantage over the massive challenger with a series of arm locks, until Avalanche was able to use his raw power and knock down D-Hoya with a clothesline. Avalanche used his weight to his advantage, standing on the Champion’s throat, and coming very close to a Disqualification. Avalanche kept the match at a slower pace, stretching D-Hoya out with an excruciating chin lock.

With the support of the fans, D-Hoya made it to his feet, and attempted to Shoulder Block Avalanche off his feet. After 2 attempts, the Champion changed tactics and sent the 180kg challenger crashing to the mat with a brutal liquidizer, which also caught the referee. With the ref down, D-Hoya maintained his advantage over Avalanche with a series of body blows by the turnbuckle. Avalanche soon took control of the match up however, when he countered a Sunset Flip attempt by D-Hoya with a huge Splash, earning the challenger a near fall.

D-Hoya fought back, hitting the challenger with rights and lefts, and even a dropkick, which brought Avalanche to one knee. As the champion seemed to be in control of the match, Avalanche hit a Wave of the Avalanche out of nowhere, but D-Hoya kicked out just before the 3. Frustrated, Adam Avalanche set D-Hoya up for the Wave of the Avalanche again, but Hoya’s feet caught the referee, sending him crashing to the canvas for the 2nd time in the match.

With the ref down, Anarchy fished a chair out from under the ring, and attempted to hit D-Hoya with it before his opponent from earlier in the night, Chrome, made the save, taking the chair shot for the Champion. Anarchy swung at D-Hoya again, but missed and bounced the steel chair right off of Adam Avalanche’s head! D-Hoya took back control of the match, taking out Anarchy with an End of Da World, and hitting Avalanche with a stinger splash in the corner. In a display of unparalleled strength, D-Hoya lifted Avalanche out from the turnbuckle, and proceeded to hit him with 2 successive gravity defying power slams, to successfully retain the NZWPW Heavyweight Championship and put an end to Avalanche‘s winning streak, much to the delight of the Levin crowd.

Earlier in the night, the Levin fans were treated to a fantastic showdown between ‘Silencer’ Jean Miracle, and ‘Dangerous’ Dan ‘Da Man’ Stirling. Stirling opened up strong, showing the crowd why he is a former New Zealand Kick Boxing Champion, softening up Miracle’s abdomen with a series of stiff kicks. Miracle fought back, choking Dan on the ring ropes to regain control of the match. Towards the end of this back and forth battle, which saw the referee get knocked down, Stirling set Silencer up for the Dan Driver, only for ‘Shining’ Nick Silver to hit the ring, and assault ‘Dangerous’ Dan. With the referee still down, Silencer was able to hit the Screwdriver re-mix on Stirling, just in time for the referee to revive and count the pin fall. After the match, Shining Nick Silver, still irate from his loss to Rehua earlier in the evening took out an already beaten Dan with a Brutal Silver Bullet. Silencer and Silver continued to beat down Dan until NZWPW Promoter Martin Stirling forced the duo to leave.
