Avalanche crushes 'Catcher's Dreams of Championship Gold at Bringing Down the House

DreamCatcher tried every trick in the book to become NZWPW New Zealand Heavyweight Champion this Friday at Bringing Down the House, but it wasn’t enough to stop Adam Avalanche.

Adam made his way to the ring, and awaited the arrival of the man he eliminated from the NZPWI First Invite Eliminator Battle Royal on August 12th. DreamCatcher’s music hit, and he appeared seemingly from nowhere, blinding the Champion with some Dream Dust to take control as the match began. His advantage was short lived though, as an attempt at a running shoulder block was too much for DreamCatcher to manage, allowing Adam Avalanche to take it to the challenger with a massive power-slam. With DreamCatcher obviously out cold, Avalanche went for the cover, but broke his own count at 2, claiming ‘It’s only over when I say it’s over!’.

Avalanche continued to work over DreamCatcher with a series of excruciating chin locks, wearing him down even further. DreamCatcher managed to revive, with the help of the crowd, and made an attempt at a Woodcutter, which Avalanche sidestepped. With ‘Catcher on the mat, the Champion looked to finish things off with a Huge Splash, but DreamCatcher rolled out of the way! As Avalanche struggled to his feet, DreamCatcher charged towards the Champion and attempted another Woodcutter, but Avalanche countered into a Massive Wave of the Avalanche, picking up the victory.

Also on the card, ‘Dangerous’ Dan ‘Da Man’ Stirling teamed with Tank to take on ‘Shining’ Nick Silver and his mystery partner, the Masked Wrestler!

Silver showed no signs of fatigue, despite this being his second match of the evening, and dominated the match in it’s early stages, hitting Tank with an X-Factor. Tank fought back however, powerslamming the Shining One, and attempting a cover. The Masked Wrestler distracted NZWPW Senior Official Roneel though, sending Tank back to the drawing board. In order to maintain his offence, Tank called partner Dan Stirling into the ring illegally, and the two dominated Silver. The crowd alerted Roneel to the fact that a tag had not been made, and Stirling was forced back to his corner. Tank beat down Silver and made a tag to Dan Stirling, who caught ‘Shining’ Nick with a Flying Knee in the corner, which he then followed up with a Snap Suplex, scoring a 2 count, which was broken up by the Masked Wrestler.

Later in the match with Masked Wrestler and Dan Stirling as the legal men, Dan scored a 5 Knuckle Shuffle, but failed to follow up with a pin attempt, allowing Masked Wrestler to tag in Nick Silver. Dan looked to remain on offence with a Dan Driver, but Silver reversed it into a Reverse DDT. The Shining One then set ‘Da Man’ up in the corner, and proceeded to drive him to the Mat with a Silver Bullet, scoring a win for him and the Masked Wrestler.

NZWPW Bringing Down the House Results

Ace T. Lazer def. Sandstorm
Lazer focussed on Sandstorms legs all match, wearing them down with a series of submission holds. Once Sandstorms legs were worn down enough, Lazer swept them out from under Sandstorm, and rolled through into a pinning combination for the victory.

Generation Next Showcase Match
Infinity def. Axl via DQ
The finest wrestlers to come out of NZWPW’s Generation Next Training Program squared off in the next match of the night. Axl displayed his clear power advantage, lifting Infinity by the head from the outside of the ring, and dropping him down onto the ring apron. Not put off by Axl’s display of strength, Infinity crawled back into the ring, and challenged the big man to a test of strength. Axl over powered Infinity yet again, and maintained his offence with a Backbreaker. Infinity countered the next backbreaker attempt into a Crucifix Pin, scoring a 2 count. In an attempt to keep the big man down, Infinity connected with 3 successive Bulldogs, which didn’t seem to phase Axl. Seemingly having run out of all moves in his arsenal, Infinity backed into the corner, where Axl proceeded to choke him out on the ropes, causing a disqualification. Annoyed by his loss, Axl inflicted even more pain on Infinity, with a gigantic Chokeslam after the match had ended.

Anarchy defeated C.D.
During this hard-fought battle Anarchy hit C.D. with a Shining Wizard, a Standing Moonsault and a Sunset Flip Powerbomb, none of which could keep the aspiring football player down. C.D. fought back with 2 Spear Tackles and a Scoop Slam. When C.D.’s rival Jimmy Sparxx came to ringside however, Anarchy was able to connect with the Sex Drive (Simply Squeezed) and pick up the victory.

Rehua def. ‘Shining’ Nick Silver via DQ
D-Hoya was unable to attend Bringing Down the House for unknown reasons, and so Rehua volunteered to be his replacement and take on Silver. Rehua dominated the match with a series of powerslams, and picked up the victory when Silver, sensing he couldn’t beat Rehua, blatantly low-blowed him, giving him the win via DQ.

First Invite to the NZPWI Invitational 2007 Match
‘Silencer’ Jean Miracle def. Jimmy Sparxx

Miracle informed the crowd of several tragedies that had occurred recently, one being Dal Knox losing the First Invite Eliminator, and another being Jimmy Sparxx faking an injury. Silencer challenged Sparxx to come down to the ring and have a match, but when Sparxx failed to do so, Miracle put his entry into the NZPWI Invitational on the line, luring Jimmy out from backstage. Silencer dominated the match, catching Sparxx with two clotheslines, followed by a cross-body press. He then followed up with a Big Boot and the Screwdriver Re-Mix, successfully retaining his entry into the prestigious tournament.

NZWPW New Zealand Heavyweight Championship Match
Adam Avalanche def. DreamCatcher
Despite some points in the match where it appeared DreamCatcher was in control, Adam Avalanche asserted his dominance when he countered a Wood Cutter into a Wave of the Avalanche (Black Hole Slam) to retain the Championship.

‘Shining’ Nick Silver and the Masked Wrestler def. 'Dangerous’ Dan ‘Da Man’ Stirling and Tank
With the Masked Wrestler taking care of Tank on the outside, Nick Silver was able to finish off Dan Stirling with a Silver Bullet, picking up the victory in the Tag-Team Main Event.
