Bringing Down the House last night was scheduled to see Adam Avalanche
defend his NZWPW Championship against long-time rival D-Hoya, but the
match was not to be. When the time came for Adam to come to the ring,
the champion was seen limping along the entrance way, balancing himself
on a crutch, and not dressed to compete at all. Avalanche took a
microphone from the commentary table, and informed the crowd that two
weeks ago, D-Hoya chop blocked his knee at Kuku Bash, causing it to
fall out of alignment, and subsequently, Adam would be in no state to
compete that night. The champion then produced a signed and dated
doctor's certificate, officially clearing him from competition. Not wanting to waste D-Hoya's time in the ring though, Avalanche decided that if D-Hoya could defeat an opponent of his choosing, then next month at Pacific Storm, he would probably be granted a championship match. This would soon prove to be no easy task though, when the demonic Axl appeared accompanied by Misty, and strode down to the ring, to go chest-to-face with D-Hoya.
Despite the size difference, D-Hoya refused to back down, and the
bell rang to signal the start of the contest. Axl raised his hands into
the air, and challenged D-Hoya to a test of strength. Axl appeared to
just be toying with Hoya though, and when the former NZWPW Champion
stretched out to grab hold of Axl's hands, he found himself slapped in
the face. Adam Avalanche showed his approval from the commentary table,
and Axl instigated another test of strength. Axl overpowered D-Hoya to
begin with, but in a rush of adrenaline, D-Hoya bent Axl's arms
outwards and put his opponent in a world of pain. Axl kicked D-Hoya in
the stomach to break the hold though, and then connected with a big
uppercut that staggered D-Hoya.
In Mitch Zero’s debut match with NZWPW, the masked wrestler came remarkably close to defeating Little Joker from the Emo Army. Joker began to dominate the match, but missed his unique People’s Eyebrow assault, and Mitch leapt to his feet to attempt a Shining Wizard. Joker bridged backwards and Mitch came remarkably close to hitting the referee. While he apologised for the near miss, Little Joker nailed Mitch with a low blow and then finished him off with his TX1 Overdrive.
The first match on the official Bringing Down the House card saw Lady T and Matariki embrace in the ring, to show the match wasn’t due to any hard feelings between the two - unlike the former team of Angel of Destruction and Misty. The match progressed to see Matariki tie Lady T up in a submission hold, but the bell suddenly rang without a clear victor, and it was revealed the match had reached its maximum time.
In a rematch from Kuku Bash, a slightly revamped Andrew Pathania looked to beat the much larger GBH for a second time. It was not to be though, and when Pathania tried a Frogsplash off the top rope to finish the match, GBH thrust his knees upwards, and Pathania’s ribs took a beating. With his opponent’s midsection injured, GBH crushed Pathania with a standing splash, and earned his first victory in his second professional match.
In their third and second matches respectively, Cam-Akaze and Nick G-Nore almost stole the show with a breathtaking battle, filled with a variety of moves reminiscent of a Ring of Honor match. The match drew close to an end when Cam-Akaze powerslammed, and then powerbombed his opponent, to score a near fall. Not to be outdone, when the two men got back to their feet, G-Nore crushed Cam with a Styles Clash, also earning him a near fall. Back up again, and a head scissors attempt from Nick G-Nore later, both competitors re-ignited the match with a brutal chop battle in centre ring, busting the blood vessels in each others’ chests. Cam-Akaze briefly took control of the chops, and leapt into the air to snap-hurricanrana Nick G-Nore to the ground and pin his shoulders to the mat for a three count.
“Dream Catcher” showed the fans he darker side of Emo, choking the Emo Boy on the middle rope. When Woodgate relinquished the hold, Emo Boy took over with a hurricanrana, and connected with three successive spinning neckbreakers. While Phil lay on the mat, Emo Boy attempted a Psyko-Senton from the middle rope, but “Dream Catcher” had been playing possum, and rolled to safety. Little Joker climbed onto the ring apron, and called the referee over to seemingly discuss his day, whilst Angel of Destruction handed her man a skateboard. “Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate then proceeded to steal any dreams Emo Boy may have had of victory, when he nailed him with the skateboard in the stomach, before chopping him down to size with the Woodcutter. After the match, Emo Boy was offered a place in the ever growing Emo Army, but declined the proposal and walked away.
Jimmy Sparx left his trusty steel chair in the corner, along with a mystery object. Just before the match began, Infinity seemed to trade objects - but the relevance of such a move wasn’t apparent until much later. Referee Jayce became sandwiched in the corner, and fell to the ground to recover. Seeing he had an opportunity to cheat the system, Jimmy Sparx whacked his steel chair on the ground, and then fell down as if he had been struck. To cap off the illusion, Sparx revealed the object under his chair was a tube of paint, which he smeared over his face. As the referee revived and began to disqualify Infinity, fans noticed that Sparx’s face was covered in green - Infinity had traded the paint tubes! As such, the match was restarted, and Jimmy Sparx had to win it the hard way, making Infinity submit to a Lockout Cloverleaf.
After the Superlatives came to the ring and demanded the Tag Team Championships - claiming they had only lost them due to some unfortunate injuries - an interesting situation arose. When Miracle’s instructions of “You. Two. Dan. Rehua. Belts. Back. To. Nick. And. Jean. Or we put our foot in your face and kill you...” failed to inspire Company Gold to surrender their championships, Belthazar came to the ring and appeared ready to fight. The Superlatives quickly offered Belthazar a place in their perfect team, as long as he could defeat Dan Stirling - in which case Miracle and Silver would become Tag Team Champions. Belthazar failed to get the job done though, when “Da Man” became the first man to counter the Satanic Cross, and went on to defeat Belthazar with a Dan Driver.
In brief match, O’Siris soon became frustrated he was unable to beat Tank, and went outside to get his steel chain. Tank moved onto the ring apron, and tried a double axe-handle smash, but O’Siris had wrapped his chain around his fist, and thrust it into Tank’s skull, causing the disqualification. O’Siris then choked Tank with the chain in the ring, before putting the exclamation mark on his assault with his Diamond Dust finishing move.
One of the most intense women’s rivalries in New Zealand history finally resulted in a one-on-one match between the experienced AOD and the powerful Misty. During the match, Misty challenged the Angel to a test of strength, but dropped to her knees to mock AOD’s petite size. Angel of Destruction showed she disproved with a hard slap to Misty’s face, that caused Misty to bend AOD over her knee and deliver a spanking of her own! As the Angel attempted to regain some dignity and move away from Misty, she found herself in a Torture Rack, then a Bearhug. Misty made the mistake of moving the Bearhug towards the corner though, and as she released the hold, AOD sprung off the turnbuckle and took Misty down with a hair-grab Bulldog to wrap up their high-energy match. Misty, frustrated, took down referee Jayce with a clothesline, signalling that her issue with AOD was not over.
In somewhat of an upset victory, unlikely crowd pleasers Ruf-Storm came one step closer to their ultimate goal of becoming Tag Team Champions. Rufguts looked like he might win the match by slamming JC “Anarchy” Star into the turnbuckles, but CD made a blind tag and Speared the former Lower Hutt Rubbish Man. Sandstorm tactfully distracted the referee of the contest, giving Rufguts a chance to smash a bag of rubbish into JC Star, before doing the same to CD. Discarding the evidence, Rufguts covered CD, and the referee - unaware of any foul play - counted to three.
D-Hoya was disappointed to find he would not receive a shot at the NZWPW Championship, and even more so when it was revealed Adam Avalanche had been injured because of him. D-Hoya’s evening got worse still, as Axl beat him down throughout the course of the match, and eventually left the ring after an Atomic Spinebuster. Adam Avalanche convinced him to go back to the ring and not lose via count out, which gave D-Hoya an opportunity to bring an End to Axl’s World, and earn a match against Adam Avalanche at Pacific Storm in June. |
