NZWPW Colossus: D-Hoya remains Champion
Written by David Dunn

A huge crowd were on hand to witness veteran D-Hoya and up-and-comer Axl battle it out in the main event of NZWPW Colossus: A night of Gladiators and Amazons earlier tonight in Levin. Axl held his own against the reigning champion, and came close to taking the match home at several points. However, Axl’s evil intentions overcame him and after choking D-Hoya out with a noose, he was disqualified.

In a rare occurrence D-Hoya was the first man introduced as the championship contest began, to make way for Axl’s spooky entrance. A coffin was placed on the stage as Axl strode to the ring, removing his mask to show he meant business. After having an axe taken from him by the referee, Axl sandwiched D-Hoya in the corner and hammered away at him as the opening bell rang. A high knee lift left Hoya grabbing at the ropes to keep his balance, and Axl attempted a stinger splash. D-Hoya ducked out of the way and went after Axl with a unique slam that took the big man off his feet.

Axl got back up and met a kick to the stomach from D-Hoya. As he stood doubled-over, D-Hoya leapfrogged over his back, landed on the middle rope and spring-boarded off to deliver a fame-asser-style legdrop to the back of Axl’s head!

Axl stood up and the crowd cheered D-Hoya on as he locked-up with Axl in the middle of the ring. Neither man could overpower the other, and as they broke their grip Axl removed his gloves and bounced some hard shots off D-Hoya’s face. D-Hoya staggered backwards and then wrapped himself around Axl, rolling him up for a count of two. Axl’s momentum from kicking out carried him over into another pinning predicament, but he was fast to shove D-Hoya off and dropkick him away when Hoya tried to lock-up again.

D-Hoya stood up and Axl scooped him into a sidewalk slam. In a break from his usual offence Axl then grabbed Hoya’s legs and battered his groin with a legdrop. Axl wrapped D-Hoya’s arm around his leg and stood up to have the NZWPW Champion in an abdominal stretch. D-Hoya fought his way out though and wrapped Axl’s appendages around his in a form of revenge. With both men on the mat, D-Hoya propelled himself into a handstand before elbow dropping Axl’s arm - taking away the strength he would need for a Lucifer’s Gift Chokeslam.

D-Hoya locked on another submission but Axl stretched out and made it to the ropes. Pulling himself back up on the ropes, Axl turned around into a Liquidiser straight to the chest, but he failed to go down. D-Hoya wrenched Axl’s arm to slam his head into the mat instead, but when they both got to their feet again it was Axl who beat D-Hoya to the punch. A massive boot rocked D-Hoya and a glancing forearm shot took him off his feet again. Axl followed up with a legdrop for a near fall.

D-Hoya rolled into a cover on Axl, who shifted the momentum and covered D-Hoya too. As the two broke their covers D-Hoya sat himself on the top rope, But suddenly found himself hoisted over Axl’s shoulder in position for a tombstone! With fans screaming D-Hoya managed to flip himself back, and carry Axl with him too until his demonic opponent was in position and subsequently crushed with a K-Kwon Bomb!

Miraculously, Axl kicked out and left D-Hoya to stun him with an atomic drop and then haul his arms through his legs to create a modified cradle-shock. Axl rolled away and stood back up before dazing D-Hoya with punches to the head and then nailing him with the Lucifer’s Gift Chokelsam! A flimsy pin of only one foot allowed D-Hoya to kick out though.

Axl moved over to the corner and removed what appeared to be a noose from the top turnbuckle. The NZWPW referee rushed to the turnbuckle to check things out, and Axl blatantly low-blowed D-Hoya behind the referee’s back. Slipping the noose over D-Hoya’s head Axl thrust him forward into the referee, knocking him out for Axl to choke away at D-Hoya with no fear of repercussions.

With nearly all the fight choked out of D-Hoya, Axl pulled him onto his shoulders and wrenched away at his back with a torture rack. Then, content with his work, Axl dropped Hoya head first in a modified Burning Hammer. The referee began to stir and Axl draped himself across D-Hoya. Slowly a count of two was reached, but the noose still around D-Hoya’s neck tipped off the referee to some foul play, and the bell was rung for a disqualification, meaning D-Hoya would retain the title after a hard-fought battle.

NZWPW Results:

  • Little Joker def. Zodiak
Zodiak attempted to collect a win in his debut match, but Little Joker’s experience edge allowed him to put away the new kid on the block with the People’s Eyebrow.

  • BBH def. Zach Zero & Kamystery
The Brothers of Bodily Harm showed their dominance throughout the match, and the end came when GBH knocked Kamystery from the apron before planting Zach Zero into the mat with a hard bodyslam for the three.

  • Belthazar def. JC Star
JC Star wowed the crowd with a standing moonsault and a picture-perfect German suplex with a bridge early on, but his downfall came when he missed a moonsault from the top rope. Belthazar capitalised with a low blow hidden from the referee, before the Satanic Cross won him the match.

  • Three-Way Dance
    Tank def. Sandstorm and Infinity
Infinity and Sandstorm teamed up to batter Tank early in the match, but Infinity would later eliminate Sandstorm with an Infinitizer-Remix. Tank capitalised on the break he had been given by Infinity and used a modified STO to put him down and survive the dance.

  • Misty def. Matariki and MacBeth
The first female triple threat in New Zealand history played out more like a singles match as Misty heaved MacBeth out of the ring several times leaving her to fight Matariki alone. When MacBeth’s reluctance to re-enter the ring got on her nerves, Angel of Destruction left her front row seat to maul the debuting diva with a series of kicks. Meanwhile, Misty slammed Matariki with a Samoan drop before giving her the Mistifier and taking the win in front of her home-crowd.

  • NZWPW Tag Team Championship
Company Gold (c) def. “Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate & Disturbed
“Dream Catcher” and Disturbed made a nice duo, but when an argument broke out as to who the legal man was following a Woodcutter, Rehua took out Woodgate before swinging Disturbed all over the ring until Dan Stirling smashed him with an elbow drop and took the victory.

  • Right 2 Challenge
    Four-Way Dance
“Silencer” Jean Miracle vs. Rufguts vs. Jimmy Sparx vs. Adam Avalanche was declared a draw
In an epic match between four of the best in NZWPW, the Screwdriver followed by a huge splash eliminated Rufguts. “Silencer” Jean Miracle was the next one to go when Adam caught him in the Wave of the Avalanche. However, as Jimmy Sparx and Avalanche grappled in a submission by the ropes, Martin Stirling suddenly called for the bell, mysteriously proclaiming the match to be a draw.

  • NZWPW Championship
D-Hoya (c) def. Axl via disqualification
D-Hoya retained the NZWPW Championship, but not as he would have liked to after a brutal beating from Axl involving a noose and a low blow left the referee with no choice but to disqualify the challenger for the title.
