The AWF Australasian Pro-Wrestling Summit kicked-off with a bang in front of a small but enthusiastic crowd last night, who saw one of New Zealand’s best, D-Hoya, take on one of Australia’s best, TNT, with TNT’s AWF Australasian Championship up for grabs. Both men went at it with no reservations, each trying to finish the match at every given opportunity. In the end D-Hoya looked poised to hit the End of Da World on TNT, and when the champ escaped, Hoya stayed on him, ready to give out a K-Kwon Bomb. However, TNT escaped from this too, and the Detonator drove Hoya’s head square into the mat, ensuring he couldn’t kick out even if he wanted to and allowing TNT to hold onto the gold. Their match began with both men feeling each other out, working over their arms until D-Hoya took TNT down and rolled him into a Boston crab. The hold was applied too close to the ropes though, and TNT escaped to drop Hoya with a right-hook neckbreaker. A hard kick to the base of the spine made Hoya get back to his feet, where he attempted to liquidise TNT with his spinning shin-kick. TNT stepped to the side to avoid the kick, and took D-Hoya down with a glancing enzuigiri. As D-Hoya got back to his feet a powerful forearm strike to the back of his head grounded him yet again. D-Hoya got up again though, and powered TNT up onto his shoulders before stepping forward and bringing the champion down in a neckbreaker from 6’1” in the air. Using the corner to support him getting back up, TNT left himself prone for D-Hoya’s impressive leapfrog, springboard legdrop to the back of the head. Now in full control, D-Hoya took to the top rope, and blasted TNT in the chest with a missile dropkick. Heading to the other turnbuckle now, Hoya was poised to attempt another high-flying move, but when TNT pushed referee Phil Woodgate into the ropes, Hoya was straddled across the top turnbuckle long enough for TNT to give him a hurricanrana from the top rope! Obviously fatigued from the hard-hitting contest, both men lay on the canvas until a count of eight was reached by the referee. TNT dropped D-Hoya again with a hard boot to the head, and squashed him into the mat with a second rope moonsault. D-Hoya managed to get a shoulder up before the three count though, and with TNT as hurt as D-Hoya, the challenger broke out a break-dancing legdrop, and even a cartwheel splash to score a two count. Feeling the momentum swinging in has favour, D-Hoya called for the End of Da World, and began to press TNT into the air. The AWF Australasian Champion slipped behind though, and readied D-Hoya for his reverse pedigree, the Detonator. TNT didn’t realise how vulnerable he had just made himself though, and D-Hoya stood up to have his opponent in prime position for the Eclipse! The move connected, but a delay before the cover allowed TNT to kick out at two. D-Hoya stayed focussed, and put TNT on the top rope, ready to be K-Kwon Bombed. Unfortunately for him, TNT shifted his weight, spilled off Hoya’s shoulders and used the Detonator to retain the AWF Australasian Championship. After the match, TNT made sure to let fans know what an effort D-Hoya had put up, shaking hands with his worthy opponent and raising his hand before leaving the ring and heading backstage.
