AWF: Tradition Reigns in October

080926_traditionreignsThe Australasian Wresting Federation returns to New Zealand in October for a blockbuster weekend. The Tradition Reigns tour begins with a show at the Lower Hutt Town Hall on October 3rd, before the wrestlers head up to Westlake Boys’ High School in Auckland for October 4th to crown a brand-new Commonwealth Heavyweight Champion!

Fans at the Lower Hutt Town Hall will see two of the biggest names in Australasian wrestling collide in a trans-Tasman encounter, as “Lyte Playa” Roger Ventura represents New Zealand against TNT in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match.

“Lyte Playa” was voted 2007’s Best Wrestler in the NZPWI People’s Choice Awards last year, after rocketing to the top of Auckland’s IPW and also being entered into the NZPWI Invitational. TNT has dominated in AWF, holding the Australasian Heavyweight Championship for most of the year and defending the belt against international superstars such as Raven. Who will be able to pin or make their opponent submit twice to take the win in this high-profile match up?

Also on the card for Lower Hutt, X-Rated clashes with Creed. Both these wrestlers are staples in the Wellington scene, having been part of NZWPW, KPW, AWE and now the AWF Tradition Reigns show. Will the former NZWPW Catchweight Champion X-Rated have what it takes to overcome Creed in their historic encounter, or can Creed utilise his martial-arts skills to chop X down to size?

AWF Tradition Reigns, Night 1, Card:

  • 2-out-of-3 Falls Match
“Lyte Playa” Roger Ventura vs. TNT
  • Creed vs. X-Rated
  • AJ Freely vs. Jay Law
  • D-Money vs. Jeremiah
  • Air Guitar & Pacifika vs. The Inquisition

The following night AWF journey north to Westlakes Boys’ High School on Auckland’s North Shore to resurrect the Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship! In a one night elimination tournament eight men will put it all on the line in the hope of leaving Auckland with the same belt held by New Zealand legends including Steve Rickard and John Da Silva. So far, five names have been announced:

  • TNT
  • “Lyte Playa” Roger Ventura
  • X-Rated
  • Jay Law
  • AJ Freely

With the announced five participants having held several of Australia and New Zealand’s major championships, who will go on to be the ultimate champion in Auckland? Who will the final three men be to round out the eight-man tournament?

Tickets to both AWF Tradition Reigns events are available to be purchased on the door (which opens at 7.30pm in Lower Hutt; 6.30pm in Auckland), or online via TradeMe. Check back with NZPWI as more details are announced for AWF Tradition Reigns and the future of the Commonwealth Championship.
