Rufguts remains the NZWPW Champion to close out 2009 after beating “Shining” Nick Silver, two falls to one, in their championship match at NZWPW Bringing Down the House: Christmas Wrap-Up.
Rufguts took the first fall of the match on Saturday, December 19 with a legdrop to the back of Silver’s head followed by a neckbreaker. Rufguts then whipped Nick into the corner only to be caught with a hurricanrana. With the champ on the mat, Silver locked in a half-Boston crab and surprisingly forced Rufguts to tap, tying things up with one fall each.
With the next fall deciding who would leave as NZWPW Champion, both men stepped up their game. Rufguts spiked Silver into the mat with a steamroller, but missed with a legdrop from the second rope. Nick then hurried to the corner and looked set to pull the trigger on a Silver Bullet to Rufguts, but the champ rolled through and landed on Nick Silver in a pinning position to take the third and final fall of the match, retaining the NZWPW Championship to end Bringing Down the House: Christmas Wrap-Up.
Earlier in the night NZWPW referee Damian Tait had stepped into the ring as a competitor for the first time against Ben Mana, NZWPW’s Maori Warrior.
Damian tried to beat some respect for referees into Ben Mana, and was surprisingly able to take the big man off his feet with armdrags and even a stunner that nearly gave him an upset victory!
In the end it was Mana who would leave victorious though, catching Tait in a Mana Slam before picking him back up to finish the match decisively with a Samoan Spike, in tribute to the late Umaga.
NZWPW Bringing Down the House Results:
Chad Howard def. Kid Caprice Caprice did well to hang with the more experienced Howard, but was eventually taken out by the Chad-Breaker.
2-out-of-3 Falls Match: “The Ideal Experience” Corey Dallas def. Johnny Idol NZWPW’s CWO tried to spice up Dallas vs. Idol at the last moment by making it into a 2-out-of-3 falls match. Dallas took the first fall with the Sack (a spear tackle) moments after the bell rang, and the second fall was declared a draw both men were counted-out as they battled outside the ring. In the end it was the “Ideal Experience” who took the third and final fall for the win, following a devastating powerbomb.
Rose Caprice def. Chi Tah and Misty Rookie Rose knocked Misty from the apron when she became distracted by The Nerd, and covered Chi Tah for an unexpected victory.
“Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate def. GI Jade Woodgate worked over Jade’s leg for most of the match, which eventually paid off when GI Jade collapsed while attempting a fireman’s carry. “Dream Catcher” then locked in a figure-four leg lock, and sneakily used the ropes for added leverage to make Jade tap out.
Ben Mana def. Damian Tait Referee Damian Tait made his wrestling debut, looking to force some respect out of Ben Mana. Miraculously, Tait came close to a win when he caught Mana in a stunner, but his good luck came to an end when he was finished by the Mana Slam and a Samoan Spike, paying tribute to the late Umaga.
Tykade def. The Nerd Nerd tried to start the match with some electrical wiring hidden in his wrestling attire, but once the referee removed it Tykade made short work of Nerd with a big wedgie and the Game Over.
NZWPW Championship, 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: Rufguts (c) def. “Shining” Nick Silver Having wrestled for the title the previous night at AWE Epic Encounter, Rufguts and Silver had their match turned into a 2-out-of-3 falls bout. Rufguts took the first fall with a neckbreaker. Silver claimed the second when Rufguts tapped to a half-Boston crab. The final fall looked as if it was going to “Shining” Nick, but Rufguts rolled through on the Silver Bullet for a cover to retain the NZWPW Championship.
