Tykade retained the NZWPW Championship despite Adam Avalanche’s best efforts in the main event of Bringing Down the House last night when the champ caught Avalanche with a small package after Adam gave Tykade a Wave of the Avalanche.
Tyakde backed Adam Avalanche into the corner after the two locked up at the start of the match, but Avalanche was not looking for a clean break as he slapped the champ across the face. Tykade shrugged it off, but another lock-up and another slap brought out an aggressive side in Tykade, who gave Avalanche a slap of his own when Avalanche missed a splash in the corner, and scaled the turnbuckles to hit Adam ten times in the face.
Avalanche tried to regroup outside the ring but Tykade gave chase and smashed the mountain of a man into the apron before rolling him back into the ring, where Avalanche stopped Tykade’s momentum with a double-axe-handle smash and locked the champ in a camel clutch.
With the crowd behind him, Tykade struggled back to his feet and
staggered to the corner, where Avalanche ploughed into him with a huge
shoulder tackle. Adam tried to tie Tykade up in another submission, but
the NZWPW Champion was ready for him and planted the big man with a DDT,
leaving both competitors down on the mat.
Referee Misty began to count both men down, but they were back to their
feet by a count of six, in time for Tykade to hammer Avalanche with a
huge clothesline and cover him for a near fall.
Feeling momentum on his side now, Tykade looked to pick Avalanche up for
the Game Over but was unable to lift the mountain of a man. Avalanche
took advantage of Tykade’s temporarily strained back to nail him with
the Wave of the Avalanche. However, Adam spent too much time bragging to
the crowd, and when he finally covered Tykade the champ had had enough
time to recover and kicked out at two.
Avalanche looked to submit Tykade to the Wave Tamer, but was quickly
bundled into a small package before he could lock in the hold, and only
just managed to kick out before the three. Frustrated now, Avalanche
picked Tykade up and hit him with another Wave of the Avalanche, but
once again let the NZWPW fans distract him and waited to long to attempt
to pin Tykade.
As Avalanche refocussed his attention on Tykade, the NZWPW Champion
sprung into action and compacted Avalanche into a small package pin,
which proved to be just enough for Tyakde to earn the three count and
hold on to his NZWPW Championship.
NZWPW Bringing Down the House Results:
- The Nerd def. Thor w/ Stellar Hammer
Stellar Hammer tried to get involved in the match, swinging her hammer
wildly at The Nerd. Nerd was able to use his brain and duck out of the
way at the last second though, leaving Stellar to blast Thor with the
hammer instead before rolling him up for a quick pin.
- Axl def. GI Jay
GI Jay looked as though he could match Axl when it came to strength, but
Axl still had the edge in experience and caught Jay with his patented
Atomic Spinebuster for the win. Adam Avalanche appeared post-match to
congratulate GI Jay for putting up a fight, but soon gave him a Wave of
the Avalanche to send a message to NZWPW Champion Tykade, Avalanche’s
opponent in the main event of the night.
- Misty def. Rose Caprice
Rose appeared to have the edge when it came to speed, but a big boot
from Misty stopped the younger Caprice sister in her tracks. A leg drop
ensured Rose wasn’t getting up in a hurry, and Misty finished things off
with the Misty Makeover. As Rose made her way to the back, Project
Mayhem - who had been watching the match from ringside - suggested she
might do better next time if she had some back-up.
- NZWPW Tag Team Championships:
The Five Star Revolution (c) def. The Party Seekerz JC Star hit Kid Caprice with the Starstruck Superkick as Travis Banks
forced Mikey Rave to tap out to the Lion’s Clutch, allowing The Five
Star Revolution to retain their NZWPW Tag Team Championships.
- D-Hoya def. Chad Howard
Chad Howard antagonised D-Hoya, who had been watching Bringing Down the
House from the crowd, as he came to the ring ready for his open
challenge, only for Hoya to answer and take Howard to the limit while
still dressed in his street clothes. Chad tried to re-injure D-Hoya’s
knee in the former six-time NZWPW Champion’s first match in months, but
D-Hoya persevered and eventually nailed Howard with the Eclipse for the
win. Chad proved to be a sore loser though and took out D-Hoya’s knee
after the bell had sounded, leaving Hoya unable to get back to his feet.
Chad then vowed to restore New Zealand wrestling to the glory days of
the 1980s, claiming he was NZ’s “last hope”.
- Rufguts def. Johnny Idol
In a grudge match of sorts, after Idol’s upset handicap victory over
Chad Howard and Rufguts at Tour of the Titans, Rufguts wasted little
time in taking Johnny Idol apart. Idol was shockingly able to lift
Rufguts onto his shoulders for the Idoliser, but the former NZWPW
Champion kicked out and smashed Idol into the mat with the Rufdriver
before submitting him in a rear naked choke.
- NZWPW Championship:
Tykade (c) def. Adam Avalanche Adam Avalanche drilled Tyakde into the mat with a Wave of the Avalanche,
but wasted too much time in going for a cover. When Adam eventually
tried to pin the NZWPW Champion, Tykade bundled Avalanche into a small
package for the three count to retain his NZWPW Championship.
