Cena takes Miz to his limit

STF on The MizThe STF after a series of shots with a leather belt proved to be too much for The Miz to handle, forcing him to scream “I Quit” and allowing John Cena to retain the WWE Championship at Over the Limit.

The Miz looked to take full advantage of the match’s lack of rules as soon as the bell had sounded, bringing Alex Riley to the ring to join him in his battle against John Cena.

Cena took Riley out of action with a back-body drop over the top rope and took Miz off his feet with a shoulderblock though, letting Miz know he wouldn’t be backing down.

On the outside of the ring, The Miz removed a layer of padding from the security barrier and sent Cena into the steel, before whipping him into the steel steps as well.

Cena didn’t quit, so The Miz delivered a DDT on the ring steps, bouncing Cena’s head off the steel.

Alex Riley drove the ring steps into John Cena’s ribs while The Miz retrieved a kendo stick from under the ring and began beating Cena down with it.

John Cena still refused to quit, so Miz and Riley moved the action to the entrance ramp, where Miz suplexed Cena on the steel.

A kick to the head sent John Cena tumbling off the stag to the floor below, where Alex Riley slumped a motionless Cena across a WWE camera crane while The Miz whipped him with a belt.

A chair shot to John Cena subdued him once more as The Miz moved things back to the ring, but Cena still refused to quit the match.

For a moment John Cena was able to rally back and whip Alex Riley out of the ring, and Riley collided with the referee on his way to the floor, meaning there was no one to check if John Cena wanted to quit after taking a Skull Crushing Finale on a steel chair jammed in the ropes.

The Miz continued the punishment with the steel chair, bludgeoning Cena on the outside of the ring.

Alex Riley took the microphone from The Miz and held it to John Cena’s mouth, where an audible “I Quit” was heard.

Referee Mike Chioda retrieved the WWE Championship ready to hand it to The Miz, but noticed Alex Riley’s cell-phone had been the source of the noise, not John Cena, and ordered the match be restarted.

Alex Riley accidentally blasted Miz with the WWE Championship as he tried to take out Cena, before getting an Attitude Adjustment through the announcers’ table.

With a rush of adrenaline, Cena removed his own belt and lashed out at Miz, whipping him as he ran up the ramp before stopping to lock The Miz in the STF at the top of the stage.

Having thrown everything he had at Cena and now being locked in an excruciating submission, The Miz screamed out that he quit and the referee called for the bell.

WWE Over the Limit Results:

  • R-Truth def. Rey Mysterio
The Lie Detector couldn’t get the job done for R-Truth, so he looked to finish things with the Shut Up. Mysterio countered and sent Truth to the ropes with a hurricanrana that left him in position for the 619. R-Truth was able to slide out of the ring just in time though, and yank Mysterio’s leg through the ropes to clothesline him senseless on the outside. Back in the ring, R-Truth nailed Rey Mysterio with the Shut Up for the win.

  • Intercontinental Championship:
Ezekiel Jackson def. Wade Barrett (c) via disqualification

Ezekiel Jackson was too powerful for The Corre’s liking, causing Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater to rush to the ring as Jackson trapped Barrett in a torture rack to cause a disqualification. Slater and Gabriel held Jackson in position for a big boot from Barrett, who then left with his Intercontinental Championship.

  • Sin Cara def. Chavo Guerrero
Sin Cara countered a Gory Special from Chavo Guerrero with a modified head-scissors followed by a quick pin to score the win over a disorientated Guerrero.

  • WWE Tag Team Championship:
Big Show & Kane (c) def. CM Punk & Mason Ryan

Kane knocked CM Punk out of the ring, before latching on to Mason Ryan’s throat alongside Big Show to deliver a monstrous double chokeslam for a definitive victory.

  • Divas’ Championship:
Brie Bella (c) w/ Nikki Bella def. Kelly Kelly

With the referee temporarily distracted pulling Kelly Kelly off of Brie Bella in the corner, Nikki slid into the ring to take her fatigued sister’s place and nailed Kelly with the Bella Buster before covering her for a three-count to retain the title on behalf of her sister.

  • World Heavyweight Championship:
    Randy Orton (c) def. Christian

Randy Orton looked to put Christian out of commission with a punt to the head, but Christian flew towards Orton and nailed him with a spear for a near fall. Both men looked for their finishing moves, with Orton back-suplexing his way out of the Killswitch. Christian was able to land on his feet, but the second he did so Orton struck with an RKO to retain the World Heavyweight Championship.

  • Kiss My Foot Match:
Jerry “The King” Lawler def. Michael Cole

Michael Cole tried to get out of the match by producing a doctor’s note saying he had a severe case of athlete’s foot, but Jerry Lawler took the fight to his broadcast colleague and whipped him hard into the Cole Mine before a second-rope fist-drop gave “The King” the win. Post-match, the unlikely trio of Eve, Jim Ross and Bret Hart all made their way to the ring to ensure Michael Cole felt the consequences of his loss as Lawler rammed his foot into Michael’s mouth.

  • WWE Championship, “I Quit” Match:
John Cena (c) def. The Miz

Despite Alex Riley trying to fool the referee with an audio-recording, John Cena prevailed against The Miz when he locked the challenger in the STF after lashing him multiple times with a belt – forcing Miz to quit and allowing Cena to retain the WWE Championship.
