Good day or good night, whenever you are reading from. My name is Blake Leitch and it is your honour to be receiving my pearls of wisdom in the first edition of 'Superstar of the Month'! Every month, I will be discussing and dissecting a wrestler of WWE or TNA to give you the wrestling world's best opinion for the top athlete of the previous month. If you have not followed so far, I would suggest you do something more crafted to your intellectual capacity; like colouring.
I won't bother holding the suspense - it's a waste of my precious time. The 'Superstar of the Month' for January 2012 is the formerly 'Dashing' Cody Rhodes! A wonderful pick for the first SotM if I do say so myself, and I do. So why is this glorious performer the first pick of the year? Delve further and let me educate you.
Cody Rhodes has an advantage in the fact that he is your current Intercontinental Champion. He is also the longest reigning champion in the WWE today, being a champion of almost six months! To maintain his championship, he has had to fend off a recurring has-been in Booker T. Multiple times in the last month, Cody Rhodes has defeated the former five time, five time, five time, we know how to count sucka, WCW champion. In my eyes, beating a has-been shows that you are THE new generation.
After dispatching the former King of the Ring, and current King of Announcing Buffooneries, Rhodes went on to prove his worth, as well as his potential to win the 2012 Royal Rumble. First, Cody defeated former Intercontinental Champion muscle-head, Ezekiel Jackson (aka "A man who can't succeed now Wade Barrett's left him"). The next week, Rhodes defeated the South African high flyer, Justin Gabriel, in a dominating showing. By the way, Rhodes wasn't even prepared for that match.
Rhodes then went on to show his sportsmanship by giving Gabriel another shot at him (non-title of course; Gabriel must deserve a title shot to recieve one). Once again, Rhodes was simply too good for 'The Capetown Daredevil' (more like the Capetown Deadbeat), and Rhodes gained a ton of momentum heading into the Royal Rumble match.
This momentum carried into the Rumble match, where Rhodes was truly the most dominating man of the match. He had the most eliminations, ridding the ring of Mick Foley, Santino Marella, Jerry Lawler, The Great Khali, Booker T, and 'Hacksaw' Jim Duggan. This list includes 44 World Champions, 3 Intercontinental Champions, a Royal Rumble winner, and 77 Tag Team Champions. He also had the second longest time in the match at 41:55 minutes, and was one of only six people to last over ten minutes in the match.
After this brutal match, an unprepared Rhodes fought a valiant bout at the following week's SmackDown, because the General Manager couldn't manage a little heat. Despite showing what he's made of, Sheamus was able to defeat him, giving Rhodes his first television pinfall loss in a month.
So Rhodes is certainly a worthy SotM, and could possibly go on to win the World Heavyweight Championship at the Elimination Chamber PPV, becoming the first World/Intercontinental dual champion since the Ultimate Washout. And that's a fact.
