“The Insane Icon” Sting steps back in the ring at Victory Road when he meets TNA World Heavyweight Champion Bobby Roode in a No Holds Barred match.
The non-title bout came about as a result of Roode’s actions over the past few months, doing anything possible to remain world champion.
After losing to Jeff Hardy via disqualification - retaining the title in the process - at Genesis in January, Roode was placed in a fatal four way for Against All Odds by Sting.
Being challenged by Bully Ray, James Storm and Jeff Hardy, all with Sting serving as the special enforcer, seemed like the perfect way to force Roode to be a fighting champion, but once again Bobby found a way out.
With the original referee knocked down, Sting was forced to get in the ring and prevent Roode from clocking Hardy with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.
Bobby eventually goaded Sting into taking a shot at him with the belt, but ducked at the last second to cause the Stinger to hit Hardy instead. Roode then covered Jeff and forced a reluctant Sting to count the pin, allowing Roode to remain champion.
The following week on Impact Wrestling, Bobby Roode assaulted Sting at the end of the show and caused Sting to send out a tweet, reading “I’m done”, which led to many TNA fans speculating Sting would be retiring.
When Sting next appeared on Impact Wrestling it became clear the only thing the “Insane Icon” was done with was Bobby Roode’s actions, however, as the TNA match-maker applied his make-up in centre-ring and told Roode the two would be meeting one-on-one at Victory Road.
To make matters worse for the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, he and Sting will wrestle with No Holds Barred, meaning belt shots - like the one that allowed Roode to retain the title at Against All Odds - are as legal as headlocks. Low blows - like the one Sting delivered to Roode on Impact Wrestling - are as allowable as locking up.
Will Roode be able to cheat Sting once more and defeat the “Insane Icon” before moving on to Lockdown next month, or will Sting be the one with his hand raised when all is said and done on Monday?
AJ Styles gets some much-needed assistance in his feud with Christopher Daniels and Kazarian when Mr Anderson returns to the ring as Styles’ tag team partner for Victory Road.
Kazarian picked up a big win over Styles in singles action at Against All Odds last month when Styles turned his attention to Christopher Daniels on the outside of the ring and took out the “Fallen Angel” with a moonsault. Kazarian then finished AJ with the Fade to Black when he returned to the ring.
Now, with Mr Anderson in his corner, Styles will not have to worry about the numbers game when he wrestles his rivals this Monday. Can Daniels and Kazarian score another win over AJ Styles, or will the returning Mr Anderson prove to be the deciding factor in this tag team contest live on pay-per-view?
Former world champions collide when Jeff Hardy and Kurt Angle meet at Victory Road.
Angle returned to Impact Wrestling in February, making an immediate impact by taking out Jeff Hardy during a number one contender’s match. Angle smashed Hardy into the steel steps, allowing James Storm to defeat him and advance to a TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Lockdown next month.
Having had his world title aspirations stopped dead by Angle, will Hardy be able to exact some revenge on the Olympic gold medalist? Or will Angle disrupt the Hardy Party once more and leave the Charistmatic Engima defeated?
Austin Aries defends the X-Division Championship against Zema Ion after Ion claimed the number one contendership to the belt at Against All Odds last month.
Aries and Ion met one week ago on Impact Wrestling with the title on the line, but the match ended in disqualification when Aries turned Ion’s hairspray against him, blinding the male model by blasting a stream into his eyes.
Can Zema Ion upset Aries in their rematch this Monday, or is Austin on too big of a roll as the longest reigning X-Division Champion to be stopped?
TNA Victory Road is live on pay-per-view Monday, March 19, on Sky Arena (channel 38) from 1pm, with a replay at 8.30pm. Before the Bell preview shows air 12.30pm and 8pm.
