It's the one night of the year where WWE goes extreme, Extreme Rules, and it's live on
pay-per-view tomorrow.
Brock Lesnar makes his hotly anticipated return to the ring
to collide with John Cena in a monumental Extreme Rules Match.
CM Punk defends the WWE Championship against Chris Jericho
in a street fight in Punk's hometown of Chicago.
And Daniel Bryan hopes to take the World Heavyweight
Championship back from Sheamus in a 2-out-of-3 Falls match.
Join the NZPWI Roundtable as we break down the card for WWE Extreme Rules.
Extreme Rules Match: Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena Kirsty: As much as I'd like to see John Cena whip Lesnar's arse and pay him back in
spades for that busted lip, it's not going to happen. I'll be hoping defeat for
Lesnar is only a PPV or two away though. Winner: Brock Lesnar Dion: I can't help but feel that Lesnar is going to destroy John Cena in this one,
and that Cena will never be the same after this match. Either way, I'm looking
forward to seeing the return of the former UFC Heavyweight Champ. Winner: Brock Lesnar David: Can John Cena lose two significant pay-per-view matches back-to-back? I hope
not, but I think I'll hedge my bets here and say Brock Lesnar's going to
steamroll his way through Cena on Monday. Winner: Brock Lesnar Steph: Brock Lesnar? Extreme Rules? Even if you remove the obvious favouritism of the
GM, this is going to be a bit one-sided. Winner: Brock Lesnar Scott: Even with Edge's exhortation, John Cena just doesn't seem to have the
confidence he needs going into this bout. He'll gut it out and fight hard, but
if Cena doesn't believe he can win, then he won't. Winner: Brock Lesnar Blake: Alright chickens, it's back to business as usual in the WWE. Wait a second, no
it's not. Brock Lesnar has been brought back to the WWE in a big way, and he is
certainly going to be the Next Big Thing... again. So what does this mean? A
second straight PPV loss for John and his Cenation. Winner: Brock Lesnar WWE Championship, Chicago Street Fight: CM Punk (c) vs. Chris Jericho Kirsty: Punk will be out for revenge. There's no way he's going to let Jericho get away
with all the abuse he's been heaping on Punk since WrestleMania, and in his own hometown I think we'll see Punk retain
his title. Should be a great match. Winner: CM Punk Dion: I think these two could battle at every pay-per-view this year and I wouldn't
get sick of seeing them. This one is so personal, that I think it'll be the most
brutal match of the night. Winner: CM Punk David: CM Punk all the way! While this match is the complete opposite of their WrestleMania encounter, stipulation-wise, I still don't think Jericho's worked out how to
beat CM Punk. All his accusations from the past few weeks are only going to
give Punk more motivation. Winner: CM Punk Steph: Punk has shown he's tough enough to handle Jericho's taunts, and Jericho has
been too arrogant and overplayed his hand. Another home-field victory for Punk. Winner: CM Punk Scott: Punk's found his fire again, outplaying Jericho at his own game on this week's
episode of RAW. I don't see Punk losing to Jericho this time either. Winner: CM Punk Blake: This should be the main feud in WWE right now, but unfortunately it's being
pushed aside by the big brutes. Ah well, people are still loving Punk and the
WWE would be stupid beyond WWE levels to take the title off of him. Winner: CM Punk World Heavyweight Championship, 2-out-of-3 Falls Match: Sheamus (c) vs. Daniel Bryan Kirsty: At least we know it will be longer than 18 seconds. And it's the kind of match
that I would think suits Daniel Bryan better, but my money's on the Great White
here. Winner: Sheamus Dion: I'm really looking forward to this one again. Even if Bryan gets taken out in
18 seconds, at least he'll have another fall or two to rectify it! Somehow, I
think we'll see Sheamus retain though, 2-1. Winner: Sheamus David: I hope Bryan manages to take one fall - but Sheamus has got the other two
locked down. Winner: Sheamus Steph: D-Bry isn't going down without a fight, sure, but I think he's still going down.
I just hope AJ has some kind of hand in it. Winner: Sheamus Scott: Gosh, this is so hard to call. They're both amazing athletes, amazing fighters,
and the stipulation will prevent Sheamus (or Bryan) gaining a short or cheap
win. I think Bryan might just pull this one out, through a battle of attrition. Winner: Daniel Bryan Blake: My opinion of Bryan has not changed; his character is doing nothing more than
wasting his talent, I don't care if he's getting over. I hope Sheamus knocks
his head off. Winner: Sheamus Falls Count Anywhere: Kane vs. Randy Orton Kirsty: The Viper will be out for revenge - and he's had the chance to feel Kane out a
bit more since WrestleMania. Winner: Randy Orton Dion: You can be sure this one will hit the streets of Chicago and may even be one of
the more memorable Falls Count Anywhere matches we've seen in recent memory.
Orton to take it. Winner: Randy Orton David: I was surprised to see Orton fall to Kane at WrestleMania. Will
lightning strike twice? My money says no. Winner: Randy Orton Steph: I think Kane is trying too hard to be the big scary monster - stuffing Paul
Bearer back in the fridge? Come on! He's feeling insecure and Randy's going to
take advantage. Winner: Randy Orton Scott: Orton won't lose twice. Winner: Randy Orton Blake: A good feud with some good characters and some good wrestling; but nothing
great. Orton and Kane both need this win equally bad, but I see the golden boy
taking the win. Winner: Randy Orton Intercontinental Championship: Big Show (c) vs. Cody Rhodes Kirsty: Something tells me Rhodes may have one or two tricks up his sleeve... and I
think he's taking his belt back. Winner: Cody Rhodes Dion: Big Show is definitely having a laugh at Cody Rhodes' expense. And fair enough!
I smell an upset, though. Winner: Cody Rhodes David: I think not knowing the stipulation could make things particularly hard for us
to call - and for Rhodes and Show to prepare for. At the moment I think Big
Show's got to have the edge as the defending champion, but it could really go
either way on the day. Winner: Big Show Steph: Cody's pride has been terribly wounded and Big Show's been put through the
wringer recently. That twitchy knee will be his downfall. Winner: Cody Rhodes Scott: Cody won't lose twice. Winner: Cody Rhodes Blake: I love this feud. Big Show is great with his comedy and still seems to be as
athletic now as he ever has been, if not more so. Big Show should win this.
Cody Rhodes needs to be elevated to a World Championship feud and Show can go
on to put over another young midcarder; Drew McIntyre anyone? Winner: Big Show United States Championship: Santino Marella (c) vs. The Miz Kirsty: Santino's been on fire of late, but the Miz is looking to prove something. Winner: The Miz Dion: If The Miz is to reach the heights he once reached, he needs this victory at Extreme Rules. Winner: The Miz David: I don't even know what The Miz has been doing lately. Marella, on the other
hand, has been on fire. Especially if he's got Brodus in his corner, there's no
way I see Santino going down. Winner: Santino Marella Steph: I'm going to with David: what has Miz even been DOING recently? You can't just
burgle a championship, dude, you've got to work for it. Winner: Santino Marella Scott: This match came out of the blue, and I find myself not caring an awful lot, but
I'd like to see this as the start of Miz's rise back to the top. Winner: The Miz Blake: I love WWE putting a pre-show on YouTube; good call. Maybe, next time, there
could be a reason for the match. Anyway, if team #CoBro are going to go
anywhere, Marella needs to lose the title. Miz can give it a bit of meaning
again, and Marella can be returned to the dwindling tag-team division to give
it some credibility. Winner: The Miz Staff Picks Summary: Brock Lesnar: 6 John Cena: 0 CM Punk: 6 Chris Jericho: 0 Daniel Bryan: 1 Sheamus: 5 Kane: 0 Randy Orton: 6 Big Show: 2 Cody Rhodes: 4 The Miz: 4 Santino Marella: 2 Accurate Predictions (2012): Blake: 24 of 35 = 69% (WWE: 56%) David: 24 of 35 = 69% (WWE: 63%) Dion: 20 of 31 = 65% (WWE: 50%) Kirsty: 22 of 35 = 63% (WWE: 63%) Steph: 13 of 25 = 52% (WWE: 50%) Scott: 17 of 35 = 49% (WWE: 56%) WWE Extreme
