NXT this week had a number of holes to fill as Josh Matthews was injured from a Brock Lesnar attack on Raw, Titus O’Neil and Darren Young were called up to Smackdown, Tyler Reks and and Curt Hawkins were fired and William Regal was out scouting for new talent. In Regal’s place, none other than Hornswoggle was put in charge as Match Coordinator for the night, with Matt Striker taking over commentary.
Hornswoggle announced that there won't be any challenges or
any Redemption Points. He also said that there will be a tag team match
featuring Percy Watson and Tyson Kidd facing Johnny Curtis and Michael
McGillicutty. Hornswoggle then called out Derrick Bateman to ring. Bateman said
that he was happy that O'Neil and Young were drafted to Smackdown even though
he beat both of them to earn a match on Smackdown that he never got. Bateman
says it's all about People Power but suddenly, JTG attacked him from behind and
took the microphone. JTG said NXT was "whack" but it used to be good when he
was on every week as the main event. JTG said Regal didn't have the
consideration to call him he told Hornswoggle that he wants a match. Hornswoggle
asked if he really wanted one as Bateman came back up and kicked JTG, tossing
him over the top rope. Hornswoggle told JTG that if he wanted a match, he'll get
one immediately against Derrick Bateman. A referee came out and Hornswoggle
joined Striker on commentary.
As soon as the match started, Bateman hit JTG with a running
dropkick. Bateman took control immediately, following this up with an armringer
and a snap suplex. JTG was finally able to get some momentum after Bateman
missed a missile dropkick, and delivered some stomps, a scoop slam and locked
in a sleeper hold. Bateman powered out but soon found himself hit with a
neckbreaker. JTG tried an Irish whip, but Bateman countered it and hit JTG with
a Mantastic spike, and got the pin.
Winner: Derrick Bateman
Backstage, a referee handcuffed Johnny Curtis and Maxine together
according to William Regal's rules, despite Maxine's attempt to flirt with him.
Hornswoggle came in and told them he was in charge tonight. Hornswoggle,
pretending to forget her name, told her that she would be in a tag team match
against Kaitlyn and Tamina. There were a lot of names he could call her, he
said, but this is a PG show. Maxine tried to go after Hornswoggle but as she
was handcuffed to Curtis, she fell down and was dragged away by Johnny Curtis.
Tyson Kidd told Kaitlyn that he doesn't have a name for his new finisher yet,
but may ask fans on Twitter for suggestions. Natalya accused Kaitlyn of
flirting with Kidd and called her a snake in the grass.
Natalya then arranged to be Maxine's tag partner. The
referee uncuffed Maxine and Curtis, but stopped Curtis from leaving - he is
made to escort Maxine to the ring, a stipulation of his new forced contract. He
followed them out and went to the commentary table.
As the bell rang, Tamina and Kaitlyn both dropkick their
opponents. The ref got things under control and Natalya and Kaitlyn started out
in the ring. Natalya and Maxine work on Kaitlyn steadily until Maxine applies a
guillotine and Kaitlyn begins to fade. Natalya then tagged herself in, causing
an argument to develop between herself and partner Maxine. Kaitlyn managed a a
body scissors manoeuvre and then both tagged in their partners. Tamina got
control of Maxine with a leg lariat and a leg drop before hitting a big splash
from the top rope to get the pin.
Winners: Tamina and Kaitlyn
After the match, Matt Striker told Maxine she must sit with
Johnny Curtis for his match, as per William Regal's orders.
The main event was next - a tag team match up of Tyson Kidd
and Percy Watson versus Michael McGillicuty and Johnny Curtis. As Tyson Kidd
was backstage heading to the ring, there was a commotion and a scream behind
him. He then found Percy Watson on the ground clutching his leg. Watson thought
McGillicuty had hit him in the leg with something. Hornswoggle accompanied Kidd
to the ring and announced that McGillicuty was out of the match and it would
now be a singles competition between Kidd and Curtis.
After a few lockups and counters, Kidd nailed Curtis with a
spin kick to the guts. Curtis got out of the ring, but Kidd pursued him and the
two went at on the outside. Kidd had attempted an elbow drop, but Curtis
countered with his knees and then followed up by applying several armbar holds.
Kidd got up to the top rope, but Curtis got him and hit a nice superplex.
Later, Curtis went for the guillotine legdrop but Kidd moved and Curtis hit the
mat. Kidd got to his feet and locked in his leg trap armbar guillotine. Curtis
tried to hold on but Kidd kicked Curtis in the face and reapplied the hold
forcing Curtis to tap out. Kidd got to a knee and was declared the winner as McGillicutty
stood up from the announcer's table and stared down his rival.
Winner: Tyson Kidd
Hornswoggle ran back into the ring to celebrate with Kidd and
Striker said that Regal will be back next week with some new stars. Striker then
signed off saying "This is NXT. This is where stars are born."
Final results:
Derrick Bateman def. JTG
Tamina and Kaitlyn and Natalya and Maxine
Tyson Kidd def. Johnny Curtis
