120513_diamondEarlier this month Jade Diamond told NZPWI he planned on being the first New Zealander to win PWAQ’s Rise of the Warriors tournament.

“All my time at the moment is focused on Rise of the Warriors,” Diamond said. “Winning this tournament means that you're the top guy in Queensland wrestling, and I plan on being the first ever Kiwi to win Rise.”

PWAQ’s Facebook page is reporting that Diamond has just defeated fellow New Zealander Slade Mercer in the tournament final to be crowned the winner of Rise of the Warriors 6.

Both Diamond and Mercer were victorious in their quarter-final matches on the first night of Rise of the Warriors 6. Diamond defeated newcomer Flyin’ Lion Pillman while Mercer took out Matt Bailey to advance to the semi-final round.

A win over Kyote put Slade Mercer in the tournament’s four way dance final, while Diamond overcame PWAQ Champion Steve Moore to advance.

After fellow finalists Keil Steria and Mark Davis were eliminated, Jade Diamond picked up the final fall when he defeated Slade Mercer to be declared the ultimate winner of Rise of the Warriors 6.

KPW wrestlers Marcus Kool and Shane “The Technician” Whitehead were also part of this year’s Rise of the Warriors tournament.

Whitehead was eliminated from the tournament by Josh Haze in a quarter-final matchup.

Marcus Kool lost to PWAQ Champion Steve Moore in an impromptu title match that also served as their quarter-final bout.

Kool suffered another loss earlier this evening when he challenged Matt Baily for the SWA Championship.
