SmackDown: Sheamus laughs last

120611_sheamusWith No Way Out drawing ever-closer, Alberto Del Rio struck in Sheamus’ main event match with Kane. But, even though he had managed to ruin the contest, Del Rio’s night did not go as planned when Sheamus took out Ricardo Rodriguez with a Brogue Kick at the end of the night.

Del Rio began SmackDown in the ring, where he called out the World Heavyweight Champion.

Sheamus answered – or at least that’s what it appeared. Ricardo Rodriguez, dressed as the Great White, took to the ring to ‘confront’ Alberto, before the real Sheamus joined the party.

After a brawl broke out between both Sheamus and Del Rio, Teddy Long took to the stage. Acting as the SmackDown General Manager for the evening, Long announced Sheamus would meet Kane in the night’s main event, while Del Rio would wrestle The Great Khali.

Del Rio made short work of Khali, chopping him down at the legs and submitting the Punjabi giant with a cross arm-breaker.

Still feeling fresh, Del Rio decided to get involved in Sheamus’ match later in the night.

After slugging it out toe-to-toe with Kane – who was looking to defeat his second world champion that week – Sheamus managed to drop the Big Red Monster with White Noise.

Sheamus lined up a Brogue Kick, but Kane caught the Celtic Warrior in position for a chokeslam. Before he could execute the move though, Del Rio and Rodriguez hit the ring for the second time that night to attack Sheamus and bring an end to the match.

Despite the match being over, Kane followed through and chokeslammed Sheamus, before being distracted by AJ, who had come to see the Big Red Monster from ringside.

Del Rio sent Ricardo Rodriguez into the ring to survey the damage caused, but Sheamus was back on his feet in no time and able to drop both Kane and Ricardo with a Brogue Kick, sending Del Rio a message in the process: this could be your fate in little over a week at No Way Out.

Christian was scheduled to host an episode of The Peep Show on SmackDown, but was beaten to it by Cody Rhodes.

Rhodes, the former Intercontinental Champion, took to the ring earlier in the evening to berate Christian for “pandering” to the WWE Universe.

Christian took exception to Rhodes’ remarks and threatened to get physical, which brought Dolph Ziggler into the mix. Scheduled to meet the Intercontinental Champion in a non-title match, Ziggler told Christian the time for talk was over, and their match was soon underway.

Captain Charisma attempted to spear Ziggler, but was caught in a sleeper instead. After fighting free, Christian knocked Ziggler down and finished him with a frog splash, sending a message to guest commentator Cody Rhodes: this could be your fate in little over a week at No Way Out.
