NXT kicked off with Jim Ross, who provides commentary for the show alongside William Regal, introducing the interim NXT General Manager "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. Rhodes promised the fans the brightest rising stars and most exciting matches in WWE, before a video package was shown introducing young, fiery Bo Dallas, the son of "I.R.S" Mike Rotundo, grandson of Blackjack Mulligan. Dallas went on to make an immediate impact in the ring, running rings around his bigger and stronger opponent, Rick Victor, who Regal explained was also a graduate of Stu Hart's infamous training dungeon. Victor managed to make a few power plays, but the explosive speed of Dallas saw him secure a quick victory, stunning Victor with a running powerslam before finishing with a high velocity spear tackle. Haughty Damien Sandow was scheduled to wrestle the next match on the card, but as he's often done on SmackDown, he stood instead on the ring apron and begged the fan's indulgence. "As WWE's intellectual saviour of the masses I saw it befitting of good form to come out and address all of you personally. However, it is extremely bad form that I am pitted against such an unworthy opponent. If I am truely to be an example of all that is right with humanity I cannot, and will not, demean myself by engaging with this ignoramus in the ring this evening." Sandow then smiled condescendingly to the fans and concluded "and, as always, I do this for the benefit and welfare of all of you. You're welcome." Next was the debut of The Ascension, the tag team of Englishman Kenneth Cameron and Conor O'Brian, who came to the ring amid darkness and strobing ultra-violet lights, with a gothic appearance and vicious disposition. The sinister pairing quickly demolished the opposition, never allowing the wrestler from the other team who started the bout to once reach his corner for the tag, using quick tags to build towards their finishing manoeuvre. Christened "The Downcast", the move sees Cameron grab their opponent's head and crash to the canvas with a jawbreaker, and as the opponent reels backwards O'Brian stands in wait, lifting the opponent high before crashing him down with a flapjack. And, in the main event of the new NXT, Tyson Kidd and Michael McGillicutty continued their ongoing in-ring rivalry, and once again the pair put on a wrestling clinic. McGillicutty in particular ratcheted up his aggressiveness in his efforts to secure an elusive win over Kid, using every part of the ring as a weapon to punish Kidd's body. But McGillicutty went to the well once too often when he set Kidd up in the turnbuckle in the Tree of Woe for the second time during the match, and as McGillicutty slid in with a slide aiming to kick Kidd in the face Kidd was able to pull himself up and McGillicutty slid under the ropes and into the ring post. Kidd found his second wind, and launched himself at McGillicutty with hard kicks that echoed around the arena, securing a near-fall following a running mule kick. McGillicutty was able to wrest a bit of control back after meeting a springboard attack from Kidd with a high dropkick, but McGillicutty then made another error, choosing to position Kidd atop the turnbuckle instead of pressing home his advantage on the mat. Kidd was able to batter McGillicutty down, following with a reverse moonsault, and McGillicutty was barely able to kick out before the referee reached three. Kidd then attempted to twist McGillicutty's limbs into his Dungeon Lock submission finisher, but McGillicutty was cognisant to the risk and quickly scampered to the ropes for safety. McGillicutty then caught Kidd with a quick Saito suplex, and attempting to add insult to injury McGillicutty then wrapped Kidd's legs around his in the Sharpshooter. Kidd was just able to reach the ropes to break the painful submission hold, so McGillicutty then lifted Kidd back to his feet, hooking his leg in preparation for the Perfect Plex. But this time it was Kidd who had his opponent scouted, and he countered the move into an inside cradle, and though McGillicutty was able to break the pinfall Kidd didn't let him escape, keeping hold of McGillicutty's arms to transition into the Dungeon Lock, earning Kidd the victory via submission.
