One year after earning a TNA contract at the same pay-per-view, Aries came full circle when he spiked Roode to the mat with a brainbuster to become world champion. Aries took control of the match early on when he broke out of a head-scissors from Bobby Roode via a headstand and dropkick, before following Roode to the outside with a double axe-handle from the top rope. Inside the ring, Aries looked to lock Roode in the Last Chancery, but Roode forced a rope break and again headed out of the ring, this time managing to dodge a suicide dive from Aries and allow his challenger to hurtle straight at the metal guard rail. Roode hauled Aries back to the ring and put him on the mat with a back suplex, followed by a Samoan drop and a hard clothesline. Aries turned the tide with a discus elbow, and knocked Roode out of the ring where he flattened him with a suicide dive. A missile dropkick from Aries put Roode on his back when both men got back to the ring, and Aries stuffed a spear tackle attempt from Roode before flipping over to have the champion stuck in the Last Chancery. Roode managed to get Aries to loosen his grip slightly, and rolled through to hook Aries in a crossface. Aries refused to submit though, ultimately making Roode break the hold and head for the top rope. Aries prevented Roode from connecting with a superplex when he pushed him to the mat and tried to deliver a 450 splash. Roode moved out of harm's way though, and as Aries rolled through, Roode planted him with a spinebuster. When the crossface was unsuccessful for Roode a second time, he looked to get a little help from his trusty title belt. Referee Brian Hebner snatched the belt away from Roode to prevent him from striking Aries with it, but Roode nailed Aries with a low-blow all the same when the referee turned his back on the action to pass the title out of the ring. Aries kicked out of Roode's cover, and went after the champion with a dropkick before hooking his arm for a brainbuster. Sensing the end was near, Roode desperately shoved Aries away, and accidentally knocked the referee down in the process. Going back to his original plan now, Roode grabbed the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and blasted Aries in the head before trying to revive referee Brian Hebner. Hebner awoke and began to count as Roode covered Aries, but Austin kicked out and bundled Roode up in a cradle for a two-count. As a shocked Roode kicked out, Aries kicked the champ square in the face before hastily dropping him on his head with a brainbuster, and covering Roode for a three-count to bring his record-setting title reign to an end, and begin a title reign of Aries' own.
