MITB: Cena leaves with a briefcase

120717_cenaJohn Cena stayed true to his word that he would not let Big Show win, beating the giant over the head with the Money in the Bank briefcase before tearing the case down to win a WWE Championship match.

The Miz joined Cena, Jericho, Kane and Show in the main event of Money in the Bank, as a former WWE Champion himself, and was the first man to bring a ladder into the ring.

Cena prevented Miz from reaching the briefcase and dragged him back to the mat minutes into what would be a long and hard-fought five-way.

Big Show knocked Cena and Miz down with shoulderblocks and began to build some momentum against his four opponents until Jericho countered a chokeslam with a Codebreaker.

Kane tossed Big Show from the ring and Cena tossed Big Show through the Spanish commentary table with an Attitude Adjustment. Jericho, Kane and Miz then joined Cena burying Big Show under a pile of ladders to temporarily take him out of the match.

Big Show returned to the match later on and tore apart a ladder Chris Jericho was trying to climb.

With the need for something more stable, Show left the ring and returned with the reinforced ladder her debuted last year at Money in the Bank, struggling to push the super-sized ladder into the ring.

Kane tried to cut Show off as he climbed the ladder, only to be met with a WMD.

Chris Jericho stopped his former JeriShow tag team partner from reaching the briefcase with some steel chair shots to the back, and then met John Cena at the top of the ladder.

Jericho latched onto Cena with a sleeper hold, and after minutes of struggling finally sent Cena falling from the top of the ladder.

Jericho then grabbed hold of the briefcase, only to be pushed off the ladder by The Miz and swing back and forward dangerously in the air.

Big Show climbed the ladder to send Jericho spilling to the floor via a WMD, and then dished out the same fate to Miz.

John Cena climbed to the top of the ladder to stop Big Show from reaching the case though, and swung the briefcase at Big Show's head.

A couple of swings followed before, in a feat of strength, Cena tore the briefcase down - snapping its handle off - to batter Big Show across the head a couple more times and earn a WWE Championship match in the process, his first Money in the Bank win.

120717_bryanAlthough not an entirely conventional referee, AJ managed to be somewhat impartial as she ruled over the WWE Championship contest between CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

After a feeling out process, Punk and Bryan began to dial up their intensity as the two traded chops, forearms and roundhouse kicks.

With things getting heated it was only a matter of time until AJ became involved. Unfortunately for her, the special referee was knocked from the apron when Bryan pushed Punk to the ropes and the two collided.

AJ had to be helped backstage to be evaluated, and referee Chad Patton took over officiating the WWE Championship match as Bryan pulled a kendo stick from under the ring.

Fifteen shots later, CM Punk was definitely worse for wear, but after 13 shots of his own the WWE Champion had Daniel Bryan beaten down as well.

AJ, apparently healthy, returned to the ring to chase referee Chad Patton away, and introduced a steel chair to the match - watching as Punk and Bryan fought for control of it.

Bryan managed to pick the chair up first and strike CM Punk four times for a near fall, before hammering Punk's chest with 19 roundhouse kicks as Punk tried to cover up in the corner.

Punk grabbed the chair and swung it at Bryan three times before positioning it in the corner, only for AJ to step in front of the chair, preventing Punk from whipping Daniel Bryan toward it.

AJ was not playing favourites though, and stood on the kendo stick to prevent Daniel Bryan gaining control of it.

CM Punk grabbed hold of the chair again and scoop slammed Bryan onto it before missing an elbow drop from the top rope and driving his own elbow into the steel. Bryan then snatched the kendo stick and used it to apply an extreme version of the Yes Lock, but Punk would not tap out.

Punk struggled free and used the kendo stick to stagger Bryan, before the GTS left him down and out on the mat.

Punk then left the ring and returned with a table, which he positioned close to the corner.

Bryan and Punk then battled on the top rope, looking to smash the other man through the table and pick up the victory. After a brief struggle, it was Punk who would drive Bryan to the mat, via the table, with a back superplex to pick up the win.
