Dave O'Connor gets his shot at IPW Unleashed

Not since Megan-Kate infamously took a baseball to the head of her long time friend Evie has a betrayal echoed through the ranks of the Impact Pro Wrestling roster like Dave O'Connor's did at IPW New Year's Bash last month.

With his tag team partner Dal Knox crying out for help, O'Connor shocked the IPW faithful by instead tossing a steel chain to Kingi and, in doing so, helped the champion retain his title yet again.

Now O'Connor himself will get a chance at the belt, when he takes on Kingi in a huge one on one match for the IPW New Zealand Heavyweight Championship this Saturday at IPW Unleashed.

The match came as a surprise for many IPW followers, who were shocked to find out that Commissioner Dion McCracken had been so generous with the man who cost his chosen superstar a potential championship reign.

However McCracken has released a statement explaining his actions, admitting that he offered Knox a rematch and a second shot at the title, which the Deal turned down.

"[Dal Knox] has instead insisted that Dave O'Connor be the man to take on Kingi at Unleashed," said McCracken, as reported by

"Dal has assured me to trust his judgement on this and that he has it all under control. He did however want me to remind Dave O'Connor that he is still the captain of this tag team, and that he will fall back in line at Unleashed, one way or another."

O'Connor - an IPW veteran through and through - already has three IPW Championship reigns under his belt, however one gets the feeling that he will have more than title belts on his mind when he climbs into the ring at IPW Unleashed this Saturday.

Also on the card, recently crowned IPW New Zealand Tag Team Champions TnT will defend their titles against the team of Elias and TJ Rocket - AKA Space Mountain.

TnT have yet to entirely prove themselves as champions - having only barely escaped with a controversial victory against Link and Pirate Burns in their first official title defence last month - however success against two of the fastest rising stars in IPW will likely go a long way towards solidifying their position at the top of the New Zealand tag team rankings.

Meanwhile Dal Knox himself will be in action and looking to recover from a rough start to 2013 when he takes on "the Human Bullet" Link in a potential show stealer of a match up that is definitely not to be missed.

Topping off the announced card is an IPW first - a live 'First Date' between Antonio and Olivia Shaw, which Antonio won last month at IPW New Year's Bash by defeating James Shaw in a one on one match.

Olivia Shaw looked less than impressed with the outcome of that contest, and Antonio will likely face an uphill battle if he is to win over his lady love - it could be the toughest match of his career!

With plenty of other top New Zealand wrestling superstars set to feature on the night, IPW Unleashed is shaping up to be another memorable event at one of IPW's favourite venues - the Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts.

IPW Unleashed takes place this Saturday, February 16 at the Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts in Pakuranga, Auckland. Tickets are available at the door for $15 for adults and $8 for Children (ages 5-14). Under 5s get in free.
