Main Event: Del Rio shuts down Ziggler

130218_armbarAfter months of speculation as to whether Alberto Del Rio could survive a Money in the Bank cash-in from Dolph Ziggler, the World Heavyweight Champion submitted the Show Off in a non-title bout on Main Event.

The impromptu match came about after Ziggler interrupted Del Rio while the champ was serving as a guest on Chris Jericho's Highlight Reel.

Del Rio and Jericho began to engage in some friendly banter regarding what would happen if the two were to meet at WrestleMania 29 before Ziggler appeared to make sure everyone knew he still had the Money in the Bank contract, and planned on using it before the biggest show of the year.

Sick of being threatened, Del Rio challenged Ziggler to put up or shut up and face him right then and there.

Ziggler's best offense came early in the match after a backdrop sent Alberto Del Rio over the top rope and onto the steel ring steps.

The Show Off continued to show off when he blocked an armbar attempt from Del Rio and leapt high into the air to spike the World Heavyweight Champion to the mat with a DDT.

Del Rio began to battle back against Ziggler with a lung-blower but AJ made sure her man's foot stayed on the ropes to prevent a pin.

Ziggler slammed Del Rio's head to the mat with a leg-drop bulldog and followed up with his signature sleeper hold, looking to bring the match to an end and pick up a non-title victory.

Even without his belt on the line, Del Rio refused to go down to Mr Money in the Bank and powered Ziggler to the corner rushing in to nail the Show Off with an enzuigiri.

Del Rio called for his arm-breaker submission but Ziggler was able to push the World Heavyweight Champion to the ropes at the same time AJ distracted the referee, allowing Big E Langston to rock Del Rio with an illegal right hand.

Ricardo Rodriguez swung his metal bucket at Langston and rushed backstage with Ziggler's muscle in hot pursuit, which took Ziggler's head out of the game momentarily.

Alberto Del Rio made the most of the distraction and grasped the ropes when Ziggler attempted the Zig-Zag before firing right back with the cross arm-breaker which ultimately forced Ziggler to tap out.

Also on Main Event, Matt Striker's scheduled interview with CM Punk turned out to be with Punk's manager, Paul Heyman.

"If it comes from my mouth it's the same as if it was coming from the mouth of CM Punk himself," Heyman told Striker, before going on to discuss Elimination Chamber's WWE Championship match.

Heyman referred to the WWE Championship as CM Punk's title throughout the interview, showing both he and his client have still not come to terms with losing to The Rock at Royal Rumble.
