140128_rumbleBatista is back in a big way after winning the 27th annual Royal Rumble.

"The Animal", who drew number 28, threw The Shield's Roman Reigns over the top rope to guarantee himself a spot in the WrestleMania main event at yesterday's pay-per-view in Pittsburgh.

The 2014 Royal Rumble began with CM Punk and Seth Rollins. Both men would survive until the 30th participant, Rey Mysterio, had entered the match.

Mysterio was eventually dumped over the top rope by Rollins, with Luke Harper being ejected from the ring soon after.

140127_rumbleSmackDown fans were given a taste of the Royal Rumble early when a 10-man tag team bout degenerated into a massive brawl.

The Shield joined forces with The New Age Outlaws in the night's main event against Big E Langston, Cody Rhodes, Goldust and The Usos, but before long the numbers game was too much to handle.

Goldust rolled up Road Dogg and all three members of The Shield broke up the pin, which prompted the referee to throw the match out.

Match or no match, no one was ready to give up the fight yet, and Curtis Axel, Ryback, R-Truth, Xavier Woods, The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Damien Sandow all hurried to the ring to join in the fray.

Main Event: Del Rio overcomes Sin Cara

140127_armbarAfter suffering a Batista Bomb on Raw, Alberto Del Rio used Main Event to get back on track with a win over Sin Cara before Monday's Royal Rumble.

Del Rio and Sin Cara, who have been fierce rivals over the past couple of weeks, wrestled a highly competitive match which eventually saw Sin Cara catch Del Rio with a tornado DDT.

Sin Cara would then use a handspring back-elbow, and an unconventional enzuigiri from the ring apron to put Del Rio in prime position for a top rope move.

Unfortunately for Sin Cara, Del Rio had more left in the tank than he was letting on, and sprang back to his feet to bring Sin Cara to the mat with a superplex.

140127_aaRandy Orton fled John Cena and the entire arena in the closing moments of this week's Raw, but will have to stay and face Cena at Royal Rumble.

Orton had been wrestling Kofi Kingston in the night's main event before Cena, who had been uncharacteristically absent from the building, appeared and attacked the WWE World Heavyweight Champion in retaliation for Orton's assault on Cena's father one week ago.

Orton won his match via disqualification.

With the bout now over, Orton attempted to put some distance between himself and Cena, who followed him into the crowd and brawled with the Viper into the arena concourse, before both men left through a back exit.

WrestleMania is on the horizon and things kick into high gear this Monday with Royal Rumble.

Thirty men compete in the annual over-the-top-rope Royal Rumble match, with the winner earning a WWE World Heavyweight Championship bout in the main event of WrestleMania XXX.

Alberto Del Rio, Batista, CM Punk and Rey Mysterio have all been announced for the match. Who else will join them, and who will go to take their place in the history books?

John Cena and Randy Orton meet to determine who will hold the WWE World Heavyweight Championship heading into WrestleMania in a bout that is sure to be filled with emotion after Orton's attack on John Cena's father two weeks ago.

Brock Lesnar and Big Show collide in a mammoth match with Big Show looking to shut down Lesnar, who has called out the winner of Cena vs. Orton.

Join the NZPWI Roundtable as we analyse these, and other, bouts scheduled for Monday's pay-per-view.

G5: WWE Network, Daniel Bryan, Batista & more
Written by NZPWI G5 Panel

There's much to discuss in the first Gimme Five of the year, like the announcement of the WWE Network, which will make its way to New Zealand in "late 2014/early 2015".

While it's still a way off, how are we feeling about its arrival, and do we even have time in our lives for a 24/7 streaming network?

Daniel Bryan joined, and left, the Wyatt Family in the space of a fortnight. Batista's back in WWE for the first time in almost four years. The G5 Panel offer their thoughts on these big developments for Raw.

Plus, with the Royal Rumble on Monday, we take a punt on some potential WrestleMania XXX main events.
