The 2009 Survivor Series was kicked off with a DX promo which, depending on where you stand, was either comedy gold – or a rather annoying reminder of the dominance of the DX brand as an exercise in style over content. I’ll leave you to guess where I stand on that – and it shouldn’t take much for you to work it out.
It was a mixed bag of an event too – the traditional survivor series matches generally did the business – with Team Miz vs. Team Morrison, Team Kingston vs. Team Orton and a Divas match that saw Team Mickie vs. Team Michelle.
There was also a singles match between Batista and Rey Mysterio – which succeeds mostly in sending Batista to complete heel status.
And then – the slightly lacklustre matches were the two Triple Threat/World Title bouts. So we had Undertaker, Chris Jericho and Big Show in one match and then DX and John Cena in another. |

Rufguts retained the NZWPW Championship in a Lumberjack Match at Te Ra O Te Raukura on Sunday, making D-Hoya submit to the Clap Trap.
With the NZWPW roster surrounding the ring, including returning wrestlers Disturbed and Rehua, D-Hoya and Rufguts locked up with the title on the line. Both men were soon exchanging chops and kicks as the match threatened to spill out of the ring. It eventually did and a massive brawl erupted with the lumberjacks taking sides and taking shots at either D-Hoya or Rufguts.
Back in the ring now, D-Hoya powered Rufguts up into the Eclipse, but the champ kicked out after a two count! |
