Surviving a brutal 25 minutes of punishment at the hands of “The Samoan Silverback” Alexander, Kingi climbed the stairway to glory to retain the IPW Heavyweight Championship in front of a packed crowd at The Meteor in Hamilton last night.
The Samoan Silverback showed no mercy on his former teammate, assaulting Kingi viciously within minutes of the opening bell. After suffering a savage beat down from the 6’2″ powerhouse, Kingi finally managed to cut the big man off, stunning him momentarily with a suplex.
The champion ventured onto the entrance ramp to retrieve the ladder but The Silverback attacked again, clubbing him in the back with a series of overhand shots. Alexander continued his dominating assault over the champion, clotheslining Kingi from the entrance ramp back into the ring.
Armed with the steel ladder, Alexander taunted the fans at ringside as he attempted to slide the ladder into the ring. A recovered Kingi capitalized on Alexander’s showboating, baseball sliding the ladder into him.
As The Samoan Silverback staggered in a dazed state at ringside, Kingi leaped over the top rope in a suicidal dive attempt only to find himself crash landing into the steel ladder after Alexander pulled it into place.
The two heavyweights returned the action back to the ring as Alexander continued his dominant beating on the champion. With the ladder in his hands, The Samoan Silverback began his calculated attack on the champion, beating him senseless with the ladder.
After taking a minute to taunt the champion, The Samoan Silverback continued to bring the pain, drilling the ladder into Kingi’s body as he attempted to gain his composure in the turnbuckle. Stalking the champion with the ladder, Alexander waited for Kingi to finally climb to his feet, before ramming the ladder and causing him to eject to ringside.
Abandoning the ladder and an opportunity to gain the championship, Alexander followed Kingi to ringside, adding insult to injury by suplexing the champion onto the hard floor.
Alexander set his sights on the championship, setting the ladder up to make his accession to the top as Kingi struggled to revive himself at ringside. As the IPW Heavyweight Championship dangled high above the ring, The Samoan Silverback made his accession up the ladder. With the championship inches away from his clutches, Kingi grabbed his leg, pulling the 6’2″ Silverback preventing him from stealing his championship. Angry, Alexander retaliated with a series of powerful shots, knocking Kingi back to the mat.
Accelerating the carnage to full throttle, The Samoan Silverback lined the ladder up in the corner, as Kingi lay motionless on the canvas. Alexander climbed to the top, leaping from the ladder and crash landing to the canvas as Kingi quickly rolled out of the way.
The crowd began to roar as the tide finally turned in Kingi’s favor. The champion armed himself with the steel ladder, extracting some redemption for the brutal assault he had taken earlier.
Stalking his former teammate, Kingi scooped Alexander up for a scoop slam, planting him on top of the steel ladder to the happiness of the fans. Taking a risk, the champion hit his signature split-legged moonsault, crashing on top of the Silverback.
Chants filled the arena as Kingi continued his vicious assault over his former teammate, drilling the ladder repetitively into Alexander’s body, prompting the former champion to beg for mercy. Showing no mercy, Kingi continued to beat Alexander senseless with the ladder, before ejecting him out of the ring onto the entrance ramp.
Exhausted, Kingi set the bent and twisted ladder up underneath his Heavyweight Championship. In a slow ascension to the top, Alexander returned to the mix, hitting a clothesline from the top rope to knock the champion down.
After gaining his breath, “The Samoan Silverback” set the ladder back up underneath the hanging championship belt. As the former champion looked to once again reclaim his throne, Kingi slowly pulled his beaten body up the ladder, defending the gold by any means.
The two brawled on the top of the ladder as the IPW Heavyweight Championship hung inches away from both their grasp. Overpowering Kingi, Alexander pushed his former partner off the ladder, stunning him on the top rope. As the big man attempted to reach for the title, Kingi pushed the ladder over, toppling Alexander’s attempt and sending him crashing to the mat.
Fighting through exhaustion, Kingi leaned the ladder up in the turnbuckle as The Samoan Silverback regained his balance on the opposite side of the ring. The two engaged in a brawl as Alexander moved closer and closer towards the set-up ladder. Kingi attempted to deliver a powerful haymaker, intending to send the big man crashing into the ladder but failed to connect after the Silverback attacked with a powerful clothesline. Stalking Kingi as he gained his composure, Alexander attempted another clothesline but missed. Kingi retaliated, attempting a clothesline of his own but found himself back body dropped onto the steel ladder!
With victory on the horizon, The Samoan Silverback capitalized on Kingi, hitting his finishing Piledriver. With Kingi slowly recovering on the mat, Alexander set the bent and broken ladder up in the center of the ring. In an act of desperation, Kingi nailed Alexander with the Silencer Superkick, levelling the playing field once more.
Using the last ounces of energy in his body, Kingi climbed to his feet with the ladder in hand. As chants of “Kingi!” filled The Meteor, Kingi placed the ladder over the top of Alexander, pinning him to the mat as he ascended to the championship, retaining the title.
IPW Commissioner Dion McCracken unveiled the brand new IPW New Zealand Women’s Championship to the live crowd for the very first time. The belt sports a bright red strap and a centrepiece that mirrors the Heavyweight Championship. McCracken announced to Britenay, Evie, and Megan Kate that they would crown the very first Women’s Championship through a tournament.
The first round of the Women’s Championship tournament saw Megan Kate and Britenay square off to claim a spot in the finals, a match that would include a winner from a match between Evie and an unknown participant at a later date.
The two vixens showcased their passion and hunger in the first round of the tournament, exchanging many stiff strikes. Megan Kate looked to have the match won after locking on the Elevated Crab onto Britenay, prompting “Handsome” Danny Jacobs to intervene, distracting the referee as Britenay submitted. Evie quickly took out Jacobs but Britenay caught Megan Kate off guard, hitting her with the Extreme Makeover. Gaining the victory, Britenay celebrated her win despite a controversial finish as Megan Kate had her foot on the bottom rope as the three-count was made.
A triple threat at Collision Course saw three of IPW’s top superstars showcase their talents in a match-of-the-year candidate. “God’s Gift” Brian Saint James found himself unwelcome at The Meteor after preaching to the Hamilton crowd, offering them a cure to their social problems. Teaming together, Banks and Fury cut the big man down with a series of knife-edge chops before turning on each other.
After enduring the “Arm of God” Lariat from Saint James, the reigning Armageddon Cup Champion, Travis Banks, fell victim to Liam Fury’s Shooting Star Press. Fury attempted to cover Banks but was disposed to ringside by Saint James, who stole the win.
