Impact Pro Wrestling has announced it will be closing its doors for good next month, following two final shows on March 30 and April 27.
The shocking announcement was posted on impactprowrestling.co.nz at 12:24pm this afternoon, and was also published via the official IPW Facebook page.
IPW Director Daniel Burnell has released a statement to NZPWI confirming the news, which we have reprinted in full below:
Without doubt this has been the toughest decision we’ve ever had to make. As we mentioned in our statement, under the current climate we’re unable to continue what we love and the incredibly tough decision was made to close doors. It was a really difficult decision to make, made even more difficult when we had to let all our talent know.
We have such a hard-working and passionate bunch of people and to see the look on their faces when we told them the news is something that will always stay with me. I didn’t think there would be anything harder than giving our talent the bad news, but telling our incredibly loyal, passionate and dedicated fans we are closing doors has become just as hard. They’ve supported us for the last decade and I can’t thank them enough for paying their hard-earned money and letting us entertain them.
It’s hard to come up with the exact words to describe how we all feel in IPW at the moment but I do think everyone will deal with this in their own way. I can speak for everyone though when I say we want to focus on these final two shows and give the fans exactly what they deserve, and that is a send-off that only IPW can provide. We’ve done a lot in this past decade that fans will always remember, but I can promise you all that what we have in store for these final two shows will make you remember Impact Pro Wrestling forever.
A massive thank you to everyone that has ever contributed to Impact Pro wrestling, and please join us on March 30 and April 27 as we celebrate a decade of IPW.
The main event of IPW Genesis (March 30) has already been confirmed, with Kingi taking on both “The Deal” Dal Knox and Dave O’Connor in a huge triple threat match for the IPW New Zealand Heavyweight Championship.
No specific details have yet been released regarding the card or the location of IPW’s final ever show on April 27, however we will bring you all the information as it comes to light.
All of us here at NZPWI would like to thank the team at Impact Pro Wrestling for the hard work they have put in over the last 10 years, and wish everyone involved – both behind the scenes and in front of the curtain – all the best for their future endeavours.
