NZPWI Roundtable: NXT TakeOver: Toronto 2019
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Adam Cole and Johnny Gargano’s rivalry continues at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match with a difference. Both Superstars have selected a stipulation for their NXT Championship Match, with NXT General Manager William Regal responsible for the third and final fall’s ruleset should it be required.

The NXT Women’s, Tag Team, and North American Championships are also on the line inside Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena.

Who will leave Canada with a victory? Join the NZPWI Roundtable as we break down the card for NXT TakeOver: Toronto…

* * *

NXT Championship, 2-out-of-3 Falls Match:
Adam Cole (c) vs. Johnny Gargano

Mister J (80% accurate in 2019):
While I’m hopeful for another Gargano NXT title reign, I don’t expect to see it here. I do expect we may see a possible match of the year, however.
Winner: Adam Cole

Grady Hooker (76% accurate in 2019):
Adam Cole is my favourite to win this. I could see this going either way, but it must come down to the third fall – and William Regal will choose something amazing.
Winner: Adam Cole

Steve McCleary (72% accurate in 2019):
The wildcard is going to be if they make it to the third fall, but I have faith the future of NXT is Undisputed.
Winner: Adam Cole

Sammy G (48% accurate in 2019):
First, this match must go to a third fall to see what Regal’s mind comes up with. When it’s all said and done, there will be one “Undisputed” champion!
Winner: Adam Cole

David Dunn (46% accurate in 2019):
Johnny Gargano can win two falls, sure, but with these added stipulations? That’s another story. Just as he did at TakeOver: XXV, I’m backing Adam Cole to get the job done and take home the NXT Championship.
Winner: Adam Cole

NXT Women’s Championship:
Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Mia Yim

Mister J:
At some point they have to call Shayna Baszler up to the main roster, right? But I can’t help but think, with Ronda Rousey absent, Shayna is better served to stay right where she is. And while I like Mia Yim a lot, she is not the Queen of Spades.
Winner: Shayna Baszler

Grady:
This is an interesting match-up. Baszler has been on a roll and able to take down any opponent. Yim is on the rise and a really good challenger for the title. If I put my head first, I’ll take Baszler retaining one more time.
Winner: Shayna Baszler

Steve:
I’ve stopped betting against Shayna.
Winner: Shayna Baszler

Sammy:
The Queen of Spades heads into this match as NXT Women’s Champion, and that’s exactly how she’ll walk out!
Winner: Shayna Baszler

David:
Shayna Baszler has been such a dominant champion, and I feel like she’ll match up exceptionally well stylistically against Mia Yim.
Winner: Shayna Baszler

NXT Tag Team Championship:
The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) (c) vs. Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly

Mister J:
The Street Profits are really just finding their feet as tag champs, and they don’t appear to be in any rush to relinquish their gold.
Winners: The Street Profits

Grady:
The Street Profits have only just won the titles, but they have also been appearing on Raw so there is a question mark above them. I wouldn’t hate it if The Undisputed Era go back to holding all the gold, so I’ll predict that.
Winners: Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly

Steve:
The future is Undisputed, remember?
Winners: Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly

Sammy:
Fish and O’Reilly will have planned and prepared for anything that the current tag champs could throw their way – but maybe the Street Profits haven’t played all their cards just yet…
Winners: The Street Profits

David:
The Street Profits have been spread a little thin between NXT and Raw for my liking. Fish and O’Reilly, meanwhile, have had nothing to do but gameplan for Toronto, and taking back the NXT tag team titles.
Winners: Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly

North American Championship:
Velveteen Dream (c) vs. Pete Dunne vs. Roderick Strong

Mister J:
Velveteen Dream is probably the biggest homemade star NXT has produced in the past few years. His opponents are great too, but they are not the Dream.
Winner: Velveteen Dream

Grady:
Since I’ve picked The Undisputed Era in the other two matches, I’ll grab Roderick Strong on this one. He is good enough to take down both Dream and Dunne, but I’ll be sad when Dream loses.
Winner: Roderick Strong

Steve:
Future, Undisputed, etc.
Winner: Roderick Strong

Sammy:
All of these men are worthy to hold the North American Championship! I can imagine Dream sitting back and letting Dunne and Strong destroy each other, allowing him the opportunity to pick his spots and claim a victory to retain.
Winner: Velveteen Dream

David:
There’s no champion’s advantage in a triple threat but yet I still think the advantage goes to the champ.
Winner: Velveteen Dream

Candice LeRae vs. Io Shirai

Mister J:
Isn’t it about time that Io Shirai had a chance to shine? And it makes sense that to shine the brightest, you have to first stand in darkness.
Winner: Io Shirai

Grady:
This could be the match of the night! It’s pretty much a coin flip, but I will give the advantage to Shirai with her brand new attitude.
Winner: Io Shirai

Steve:
Looking forward to this one. I give Io the edge because of, well, her newfound edge.
Winner: Io Shirai

Sammy:
As the old saying goes, “No good deed goes unpunished”. This match will be punishment from bell-to-bell! While I feel bad for Candice, I’m backing Io for the win here!
Winner: Io Shirai

David:
I’d like for Candice to win, but it’s a tough ask against the new attitude of NXT’s Sky Genius.
Winner: Io Shirai
