Wrestlers from around the country are set to be part of the second annual Porirua Rocks.
The “Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Spectacular”, which drew 1,000 attendees to Te Rauparaha Arena in 2024 and was voted Best Event in the NZPWI People’s Choice Awards, boasts as big a lineup for Porirua Rocks 2, Event Director Oli Smith confirmed to NZPWI.
In addition to the return of the Porirua Rocks Invitational Tournament, this year will shine a spotlight on the Aotearoa Flyweight Championship.
Defending champion Cam Kaiba puts his title up for grabs in a five-way ladder match, with four challengers (weighing 90kg or less) trying to take Kaiba’s belt from above the ring.
“I’ve gone around and proved that I can have a good wrestling match,” Kaiba told NZPWI, “but I want to prove the flyweight champion is the grittiest, toughest belt, so we’ll take on all challengers.
“Put four men in the ring with me, put the belt above the ring, and let’s put a ladder in the ring and climb it and see who wins it first. I’m not scared to get my hands dirty.
“What better way to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Cam Kaiba than by climbing the ladder, like I’ve climbed the ladder of Wellington, Christchurch, and New Zealand wrestling?”
In the Porirua Rocks Invitational, the winners of Marcus Kool vs. Michael Richards, Azza vs. Jake Sheehan, and the 20-Man Fix-It-Fitzy Rumble will advance to a three-way final. Whoever emerges victorious will have their name etched on the neck of a full-scale guitar trophy, last held by Jamie Tagataese.
Porirua Rocks 2. Saturday, May 3, 2025. Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua. Tickets from Ticketspace.
