“I don’t normally share a lot of things that are really personal” – Mark Calaway AKA The Undertaker
Over the past 30 years, there has been no WWE Superstar as popular, as enduring, or as iconic as The Undertaker.
Undertaker’s appeal comes in part from his in-ring legacy – and in part because that’s largely all there is. Mark Calaway, the man behind The Undertaker, is intensely private. Notably absent from the WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony each year, and rarely at WrestleMania Axxess, Undertaker is perhaps second only to Vince McMahon himself when it comes to mystery once the cameras stop rolling on Raw and SmackDown.
Undertaker: The Last Ride pulls back the curtain on WWE’s most interesting subject in a stunning five-part limited series every bit the quality of WWE Network’s most critically-acclaimed titles.
“Undertaker’s not on podcasts, he doesn’t do interviews, so when I saw him being followed around by a camera crew, I was like, ‘Oh, is this documenting the last weekend of Undertaker’s career?’” – Chris Jericho
Chapter 1, ‘The Greatest Fear’, premieres Monday (May 11) on WWE Network, immediately following Money in the Bank, and documents Undertaker’s preparation for his WrestleMania 33 main event against Roman Reigns – at the time thought to be The Phenom’s final match.
Through a combination of never-before-seen footage from Orlando, and interviews with a who’s who of WWE Legends and Superstars, ‘The Greatest Fear’ follows Undertaker’s journey from his loss to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 30 – in a match, he admits, he has no memory of – and subsequent hospitalisation, through self-doubt before returning to action at WrestleMania 31, and eventually the marquee bout with Reigns.
The Last Ride paints a must-see behind-the-scenes picture, worth the cost of a WWE Network subscription alone, as The Deadman confronts his own mortality.
‘Undertaker: The Last Ride’ premieres Monday, May 11, immediately following Money in the Bank on WWE Network. Future episodes are available May 18, May 25, June 15, and June 22.
