IBS wins Heavyweight Championship at NZWPW Powerplay II!
Mar 26, 2005 at 09:32 AM

Last night New Zealand Wide Pro Wrestling crowned a new Heavyweight Champion in a four man tourney, as previous champion Ruamoko had been forced to vacate his title due to injury. Island Boy Si, who had competed for Rarotonga earlier that night in the Oceania Sumo Championships, defeated the debuting Naki Phulla Max Damage in the first semi-final. His opponent in the final was the veteran Punisher, who bested "The Professional" Harvey Dollars, also a debutante.

In the final IBS was forced to battle not just the 180kg Punisher, but also the monster's protégés X-Rated, The Ram and The Saint. However, miscommunication between The Punisher and The Saint gave the popular Polynesian all the opening he needed to hit a crossbody off the top for the win. He then accepted a challenge from Ivan Dragunov to a title match at NZWPW's next show, which will be held on May 6 in the Lower Hutt Town Hall.

Other match results:

  • The Ram beat "The Hype" Bobby Cool, reversing a pumphandle into a pinning predicament.
  • X-Rated handed "Dangerous" Dan "The Man" Stirling his first loss with his trademark X-Spot.
  • Ivan Dragunov's bout with The Rookie never got underway as the big Russian pummelled him with his Red Flag, angry that the match had kept him out of the title tourney.
  • Inferno and H-Flame defeated Juice and "Silencer" Jean Miracle, with H-Flame giving SJM an H-Bomb. Creed, who had been unable to have his scheduled match with SJM due to a concussion sustained at Massey Orientation, added insult to injury by axe kicking the Naki Phulla.
  • D-Hoya defeated N.O.S. with the End of Da World to retain the Catchweight Title.
